On March 9, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, India defeated New Zealand by four wickets to win the 2025 Champions Trophy. This was the ninth edition of the tournament and marked India’s third title win. The competition was hosted by the Pakistan Cricket Board, starting on February 19.

After winning the toss, New Zealand chose to bat first and scored 251 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. They made a steady start, reaching 69 runs for one wicket, with Rachin Ravindra contributing 29 runs. Daryl Mitchell was the top scorer with 63 off 101 balls, while Glenn Phillips added 34 runs. In the final phase, Michael Bracewell’s unbeaten 53 off 40 balls helped New Zealand set a target of 252. India’s spinners performed well, with Kuldeep Yadav taking 2 wickets for 40 runs and Varun Chakravarthy 2 for 45.

India’s chase started with captain Rohit Sharma scoring a quick half-century, including several boundaries and three sixes. However, a sudden collapse saw India lose three wickets for just 17 runs, including Shubman Gill’s 31 and Virat Kohli‘s 1. Shreyas Iyer’s 48 and Axar Patel’s 29 helped stabilize the innings. KL Rahul’s unbeaten knock guided India to the target of 252 with seven balls to spare, securing a 4-wicket victory. For New Zealand, Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner took 2 wickets each, with figures of 2-28 and 2-46 respectively.

Rachin Ravindra from New Zealand’s team won the Player of the Tournament award, while Rohit Sharma was named Player of the Match. Matt Henry ended as the leading wicket taker of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with 10 wickets, despite being ruled out of the final due to a shoulder injury.

After the match, India’s captain expressed his gratitude to the supporters, saying, “I appreciate everyone who came to support us. The crowd has been amazing. Not our home ground but they made it our home ground. Very satisfying win.” New Zealand’s captain has also stated, “It’s been a good tournament. We have been challenged along the way and the way we have grown as a group. We lost to a better side today. Everyone contributed to the tournament and put their hands up at different times.”
