Texas A&M’s Wade Taylor IV has predraft workout with Thunder

The 2025 NBA draft is less than a month away. Which means it’s that time of the year when prospects visit teams across the league to improve their stock.

The Oklahoma City Thunder enter the 2025 NBA draft with three draft picks. They own the No. 15 pick (via Heat), No. 24 pick (via Clippers) and the No. 44 pick (via Hawks).

The two first-round selections are interesting. The Thunder already have one of the deepest rosters and are a championship contender right now. Adding on several rookies might be impossible. But that’s all a pure assumption. Maybe OKC falls in love with a prospect in that range.

One possibility is Texas A&M’s Wade Taylor IV. He reportedly met with the Thunder in a predraft workout, per HoopsHype. He could be an undrafted free agent target for OKC.

Taylor IV played in four college seasons from 2021-25. He spent all four years at Texas A&M. He was a starter on the Aggies for most of his tenure.

Taylor IV averaged 15.7 points on 35.4% shooting, 4.3 assists and three rebounds last season. He shot 31.8% from 3 on 7.4 attempts. He was also an 86.6% free-throw shooter. The 21-year-old is a 6-foot, 180-pound guard.

The Thunder could likely add Taylor IV if he goes undrafted and is on the summer league roster. From there, he could be added to the G League’s OKC Blue roster.

A full list of draft prospects that met with the Thunder can be checked here.

Brooklyn Nets jersey history No. 15 – Isaiah Whitehead (2016-18)

The Brooklyn Nets have 52 jersey numbers worn by over 600 different players over the course of their history since the franchise was founded in 1967 as a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), when the team was known as the “New Jersey Americans”.

Since then, that league has been absorbed by the NBA with the team that would later become the New York Nets and New Jersey Nets before settling on the name by which they are known today, bringing their rich player and jersey history with them to the league of today.

To commemorate the players who played for the Nets over the decades wearing those 52 different jersey numbers, Nets Wire is covering the entire history of the franchise’s jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. The 17th of those 52 different numbers is jersey No. 15 which has has had a total of 14 players wear the number in the history of the team.

The 13th of those players wearing No. 15 played in the Brooklyn Nets era, guard alum Isaiah Whitehead. After ending his college career at Seton Hall, Whitehead was picked up with the 42nd overall selection of the 2016 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz.

The Brooklyn, New York native played both of his only seasons in the NBA for Brooklyn instead after a draft night trade, however.

During his time suiting up for the Nets, Whitehead wore only jersey No. 15 and put up 7.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and as many assists per game.

Golden State Warriors jersey history – No. 13 – Larry Smith (1980-89)

The Golden State Warriors have had over 600 players don the more than 60 jersey numbers used by their players over the more than 75 years of existence the team has enjoyed in its rich and storied history.

Founded in 1946 during the Basketball Association of America (BAA — a precursor league of the NBA) era, the team has called home the cities of Philadelphia, San Francisco, Oakland, and even San Diego.

To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Warriors Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. For this article, we begin with the third of four players who wore the No. 13 jersey for the Warriors.

That player would be Golden State forward alum Larry Smith. After ending his college career at Alcorn State, Smith was picked up with the 24th overall selection of the 1980 NBA draft by the Warriors.

The Rolling Fork, Mississippi native would play the first nine seasons of his pro career with OKC, coming to an end when he signed with the Houston Rockets in 1989.

During his time suiting up for the Warriors, Smith wore only jersey No. 13 and put up 8.5 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.

The Oklahoma City Thunder (and the Seattle Supersonics before them) have 51 jersey numbers worn by the players who have suited up for the franchise since its founding at the start of the 1967-68 season. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Thunder Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team.

And while those Supersonics jerseys may not remain part of the franchise history should a new team be established in Seattle as was the case with the return of the Charlotte Hornets, they are part of the Thunder’s history today.

For this article, we continue with the 32nd jersey number in the series, jersey No. 32, with one players in total having donned the jersey in the history of the franchise.

The only player to do so did so in the Seattle SuperSonics era, guard alum Fred Brown. After ending his college career at Iowa, Brown was picked up with the sixth overall selection of the 1971 NBA draft by the SuperSonics.

The Milwaukee, Wisconsin native played all 13 seasons of his entire NBA career with Seattle, retiring from the league as a player in 1984.

Caitlin Clark In Disbelief With Her Indiana Fever Teammate on Wednesday

Caitlin Clark In Disbelief With Her Indiana Fever Teammate on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Indiana Fever got back in the win column on Tuesday, defeating the Washington Mystics 85-76. This was Indiana’s first win since Caitlin Clark went down with a quad injury.

Through four games, the 2024 Rookie of the Year had been averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 9.3 assists. Indiana went 2-2 in those games before dropping two straight after her injury. Now 3-4 on the WNBA season, Indiana has a few days off before facing the Chicago Sky at United Center on Saturday.

Clark will not be ready to return for that contest, but Indiana has received contributions from other players in her absence.

In Tuesday’s game, fourth-year guard Lexie Hull was among the players who stepped up for Indiana. Scoring 14 points on 6-for-9 from the field, Hull also pulled down six rebounds and dished out four assists.

On Wednesday, the Fever made a “get to know” post on Instagram for Hull. Among other things, the Fever guard admitted a “weird thing” she loves is A1 and cheddar. This admission left Clark in disbelief.

“A1 and cheddar,” she questioned. “What does that even mean ? 😂😂😂😂 she’s likes a1 sauce on cheese? Huhhhhhh”

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark makes a comment on Instagram.indianafever / Instagram

Clark is known for taking playful jabs at her teammates on social media, and particularly Hull who she has a good relationship with. The two Fever guards vacationed together last summer, and have continued developing their on-court chemistry in year two as WNBA teammates.

With Clark still sidelined, Indiana will need Hull to step up again when the team travels to Chicago for Saturday’s game against the Sky.

Russell Westbrook to be Approached For ‘Never Seen Before’ Move This Offseason

Russell Westbrook to be Approached For ‘Never Seen Before’ Move This Offseason originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Denver Nuggets’ season came to an unfortunate end at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals. They made headlines when they fired head coach Michael Malone right before the start of the NBA Playoffs.

As a result, the Nuggets named David Adelman as the interim head coach. The Nuggets performed admirably under Adelman, defeating the Los Angeles Clippers in seven games in the first round of the playoffs. Russell Westbrook was a significant factor in that series, as he provided timely offensive rebounds in addition to shooting 41.9% from deep.

Russell Westbrook to be approached for “never seen before” move

In the series against the Thunder, Westbrook started right where he left off, scoring 18 and 19 points in the first two games. However, his efficiency from three had dropped, and the Thunder were getting him into foul trouble. That’s where Denver’s lack of depth and Oklahoma City’s abundance of it shone through.

According to European basketball reporter Nemanja Zoric, Westbrook could have an interesting suitor, though not in the NBA.

“EuroCup Champions Hapoel Tel Aviv are expected to make Russell Westbrook an offer ‘never before seen in European basketball,'” the post by Legion Hoops read.

Westbrook has a player option he can choose to exercise or decline ahead of the June 29 deadline. The basketball IQ displayed when Westbrook and Nikola Jokic were on the court together was mesmerizing at times, but his lack of shooting ability limits him in Denver’s offense.

The Thunder will likely be active this summer, attempting to get Jokic more help and extend their NBA Championship window, and Westbrook might not be around to be a part of it.

Patriots Promote National Scout Tony Kinkela to Director of College Scouting

Patriots Promote National Scout Tony Kinkela to Director of College Scouting originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

More than a month after the NFL Draft, the New England Patriots are making more changes to their front office.

According to The MMQB’s Albert Breer, Patriots national scout Tony Kinkela is being promoted as the new director of college scouting. This comes after Camren Williams, who was with the team since 2016, left to become the Denver Bronco’s co-director of player personnel back in May.

Kinkela is in his third season with the Patriots after joining the team in 2022. Prior to New England, he worked for 11 years as an area scout with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kinkela was with the Buccaneers for a total of 13 seasons.

Prior to his time in the NFL, he started out as a student assistant at Washington State University from 2001 to 2004. Kinkela then worked as the assistant director of football operations at WSU in 2004 and 2005.

He then served as the director of football operations at Tulane University from 2006 to 2008, before making the leap to the NFL.

The move by Patriots general manager Eliot Wolf comes after hiring A.J. Highsmith to become the director of pro scouting a month ago.

It is clear that hiring in Vrabel and the new coaching staff is coinciding with vital changes in the Patriots’ front office. Wolf is entering his second season as general manager and his fourth with the team, and likely sees an opportunity to establish a new future for the organization.

With Kinkela and Highsmith heading the scouting department, it will be important to watch how draft and free agency acquisitions perform compared to previous years under Bill Belicheck.

Lincoln Riley Reveals the QB Who Has Impressed Him Amid USC’s QB1 Battle

Lincoln Riley Reveals the QB Who Has Impressed Him Amid USC’s QB1 Battle originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The USC Trojans enter the 2025 college football season with an intriguing competition at quarterback under head coach Lincoln Riley.

Former four-star Miller Moss lost the job during the 2024 season before transferring to Louisville during the winter transfer portal window.

Moss’ replacement, Jayden Maiava, returns after starting the final four games, featuring just one loss to national champion runner-up Notre Dame.

In seven total appearances, the former UNLV standout completed 59.8% of his passes for 1,201 yards with 11 touchdowns to six interceptions while adding four touchdowns on the ground.

Maiava has the benefit having a handful of starts as a Trojan under his belt entering his redshirt junior season. Five-star signee Husan Longstreet, however, appears to be coming along nicely and even received some praise from Lincoln entering the summer.

“He works really hard at it, and it’s fun to coach guys who’re just a football guy,” Riley said via On3’s Pete Nakos. “Husan doesn’t have a million other interests off the field — he loves ball. He’s up at the facility all the time. He’s just really into it.”

Longstreet (6-foot, 202 pounds) signed with the Trojans as the No. 4 quarterback (On3) and the No. 21 overall recruit when coming out of Centennial High School in Corona, California.

Riley proved last season that the Trojans won’t wait around long at the quarterback position, and that likely won’t change as USC attempts to bounce back after a disappointing 7-6 season.

Moss had shown flashes of ability, but the inconsistency was seemingly too much to overcome for a Riley offense that has produced three Heisman Trophy quarterbacks dating back to his stint at Oklahoma.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Longstreet continue to push Maiava, or even make a valuable early-season appearance, as the two compete for the starting nod.

The Trojans will open the 2025 season at home against Missouri State on Aug. 30.

Mets Injury Notes: Sean Manaea’s first rehab start set, good news on Mark Vientos

Prior to Wednesday’s matchup with the Dodgers in Los Angeles, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza gave updates on a number of injured players…

Sean Manaea‘s first rehab start set

The Mets skipper revealed when Manaea will finally get some game action after a months-long recovery process from a strained right oblique.

Mendoza said that Manaea is scheduled to have his first rehab start on Friday with High-A Brooklyn. The Cyclones are on the road, but Manaea will appear in that game with the expectation to have two ups and 35 pitches or so.

Manaea threw 29 pitches in a live bullpen that “went well” earlier this week and the Mets starter recovered well and is not ready for the ramp up until he returns to the Mets rotation.

Frankie Montas‘ next step unclear

Montas has had a few rehab outings as the veteran right-hander recovers from a lat strain, and his latest came Tuesday with Triple-A. It was the first rehab start for Montas in Syracuse and he was not effective across his four-plus innings of work.

Mendoza was asked about Montas and the Mets skipper said they have to wait to see how he recovers from his latest start but he did not know how many rehab starts his pitcher will need. He did say they wanted to continue to build him up, but they have 20 days until his rehab assignment is officially completed, and they will have to revisit then.

In Tuesday’s start, Montas threw 61 pitches (43 strikes) but allowed six hits, three for home runs.

Good news on Mark Vientos

The Mets placed Vientos on the 10-day IL on Tuesday with a hamstring strain but Mendoza provided a positive update on the young slugger.

“We got relatively good news. It’s a low-grade strain,” he said. “Going to treat it for the next 10-14 days until he’s symptom-free and then ramp him back up. Good news there.”

Vientos hit a slow grounder to the left side in extra innings of Monday’s game but collapsed running up the first base line and stayed down for a bit. He eventually got back up and grabbed his hamstring as he made his way to the dugout. After the game, Mendoza said the injury “didn’t look good” so he was pleasantly surprised by the results of the testing on Vientos.

“You never know, guy goes down the way he did. You kinda expect the worst,” Mendoza said. “Once he went through all the testing, talking to the trainers – You hate to see him go down at any time, the fact that it’s low-grade, it’s good news.”

Vientos will rest for a minimum of 10 days and see if he’s symptom-free before he starts baseball activities and then he will be ramped back up.

In the meantime, prospect Ronny Mauricio was called up and is seeing time at third base while Brett Baty, Luisangel Acuna and Jeff McNeil split time at second.
