Seven Temporary, Renter-Friendly Bathroom Upgrades

We may earn a commission from links on this page.

One of the biggest downsides of renting is the lack of control over your environment—and that extends to the most intimate area of your home: the bathroom. Maybe this is fine, if your landlord has updated it at some point in the last two decades. If not, you may feel stuck, without the freedom (or the budget) to make the space feel a little more pleasant. But you have options.

Bathrooms can be updated easily—and inexpensively—in ways that won’t threaten your security deposit. A few affordable purchases and a few hours of your time are all you need to transform a drab “landlord special” bathroom into a more luxe-feeling space where you can clean up in style. Here are seven inexpensive, renter-friendly, totally reversible bathroom upgrades you can DIY with minimal knowhow.

Replace the shower head

One of the easiest, no-risk changes you can make to your bathroom is to upgrade the shower head. All you need is an adjustable wrench and some teflon tape, which you can find at any hardware store. Remove the shower head with the wrench (tape the connection nut or cover it with a cloth before you start working it, to avoid scratching the old shower head), clean the threads, apply fresh teflon tape, and attach the new fixture. Test for leaks, and you’re golden. You can even upgrade to a fancy rainfall showerhead with an extension arm without much extra effort, delivering that full spa experience.

Replace the curtain with stick-on shower doors

If you find a slimy shower curtain sticking to you and transforming into a mold farm to be a less-than-ideal bathroom experience, rejoice: You can ditch the shower curtain and upgrade to a bathtub door if you have a tub with a flat edge. This stick-on shower door adds a splash of style, eliminates the gross shower curtain, and not only installs in minutes, but is easily removed when you’re ready to move out.

Add peel-and-stick wall tiles

A classic solution for a temporary upgrade to any area, peel-and-stick tiles can transform the walls of your bathroom from an underwhelming builder-grade material to something that looks fresh and modern, all without damaging the walls requiring you to spend a lot. While installing these properly takes time and care, it’s not terribly difficult, and the results can be dramatic.

Note that if you want to use peel-and-stick tiles in your shower, you’ll need to look for waterproof options—not just tiles that are water resistant. Otherwise, your tiles may not stay on the wall for long, and might encourage mold growth.

Update the mirror

One of the easiest ways to glam up a simple bathroom is to swap out the builder-grade mirror for a fancier version that better reflects your style and the overall vibe of the bathroom you’re curating. If the mirror is just hung on the wall, this is just a matter of picking out a replacement, carefully storing the old mirror, and hanging the new one.

If the mirror is glued to the wall, that’s not a renter-friendly option, unfortunately. In that case, you can jazz up the existing mirror by adding a bold, eye-catching frame. If you’re handy, you could cut some trim pieces to create a frame around the mirror, or buy removable, adhesive border strips to go around it. A little precision and care will give you a striking result that instantly makes the mirror look like a bespoke installation instead of the cheapest bulk option.

Replace the hardware

Another universal trick to elevate the look of a bathroom is to swap out all the removable hardware. Cabinet pulls, wall plates, and even the faucet can be removed, replaced, then swapped out again when the time comes to clear out of the rental. This can be especially effective if the existing hardware hasn’t been updated (or effectively cleaned) in years.

Add adhesive hooks and bars

If your bathroom doesn’t have enough places to hang towels or other items, you might not want to break out the screwdriver to install more, in case you damage something along the way. But installing some adhesive command hooks is easy and comes with zero risk to your security deposit. You can put them anywhere (even in the shower!), giving you all the hanging options you need. If the bathroom lacks a towel bar (or the bar is located in an odd place that isn’t convenient), you can even add an adjustable one in a few minutes.

Install a temporary floor

A tired bathroom floor will disappoint you every time you step out of the shower. You have a few easy, cheap options to spruce things up underfoot without breaking out the hammer drill and trowel:

  • A large vinyl rug can be cut to fit the space. These rugs can mimic the look of tile, are water-resistant, and pull right up when it’s time to move on.

  • Deck tiles can work perfectly in a bathroom, covering a bad floor and giving you a waterproof, stylish option that’s foot-friendly, easy to install, and easy to remove.

  • Peel-and-stick tiles are also an option, as long as you look for tiles designed for bathroom use—and make sure they’re removable.

Jonathan Kuminga, Warriors reportedly have ‘renewed’ contract discussions

Jonathan Kuminga, Warriors reportedly have ‘renewed’ contract discussions originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Jonathan Kuminga and the Warriors have reestablished contract negotiations.

Golden State’s front office has remained at an impasse with the 22-year-old restricted free agent this offseason over a new deal, though both sides are trying to work through their issues.

“Well, there’s been renewed conversations between the two sides,” NBA insider Anthony Slater said Friday on ESPN’s “NBA Today.” “There’s dialogue, but as you all know, talking doesn’t necessarily equal movement. They’ve shared contract concepts and opinions about the whole thing between each other this last week, dating back to last weekend.

“Kuminga wants more of a player-friendly deal, more of a signal that he’s a building block, not a trade asset.”

After trading for Jimmy Butler last season, Kuminga fell out of Warriors coach Steve Kerr’s regular rotation. The lack of meaningful playing time, coupled with his free agency status, has led to both sides looking into trade possibilities. While a potential trade framework was in place with the Sacramento Kings, nothing materialized.

Both sides appear willing to work out a deal to keep Kuminga in Golden State, but the 22-year-old still is not sold on being what amounts to a backup for games when Butler and Steph Curry can’t carry the offensive load.

Kuminga was selected with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, with Golden State expecting the raw but talented forward to develop into an All-Star caliber player. While he has shown flashes of brilliance, it hasn’t been enough to win a spot in the starting rotation with Butler in the fold.

The 22-year-old has few other options given the lack of interest from other teams and his restricted free agent status.

Hopefully, both sides can work through their differences and figure out a resolution before the start of official team training camp next month.

NBA schedule 2025-26: Breaking it down by the numbers, including most back-to-backs

The NBA schedule for the 2025-26 season is out. We’ve broken down the league’s return to NBC and debut on Peacock and the more than 100 games you can watch across this network, as well as the 20 must-watch games of the season.

Now let’s dive into the details of the schedule and talk about who has the advantage and disadvantage in back-to-backs, nationally televised games and more — including the most bobblehead nights.

Which teams have the most nationally televised games?

Four teams are maxed out at 34 games on national television:

• Lakers
• Warriors
• Knicks
• Thunder

The Timberwolves and Rockets follow those four with 28 each. Rounding out the top 10 are the Nuggets (26), Celtics (25), Cavaliers (24) and Mavericks (23).

Every team has at least two nationally televised games.

With the addition of Peacock NBA Mondays and many NBA Cup games being broadcast on Amazon Prime exclusively, the number of national broadcast games jumped this season to 244, up from 172 a season ago. Once the NFL season nears its end, the NBA will ramp up with nationally televised games nightly.

If you remove the games exclusively on streaming platforms from the national broadcast game list, only counting the games on NBC, ABC and ESPN, the teams with the most games are: Knicks (21), Lakers (20), Thunder (20), Warriors (19) and Nuggets (18). Worth noting that both the Rockets and Timberwolves will have 17 of those games. It’s also worth noting that all those games on over-the-air broadcasts also will be available on streaming services such as Peacock for the NBC games as well.

Which teams have the most back-to-backs?

Every team has between 13 and 16 back-to-backs, with the average being 14.4 (down slightly from 14.9 a season ago). The five teams with the most (16) are:

• Hornets
• Nuggets
• 76ers
• Suns
• Wizards

Just as interesting is the number of times a team faces an opponent on a back-to-back. At the top of the list, the 76ers face 18 teams on the second night of a back-to-back, while the Nuggets are at the low end of that scale with 12.

Utah, Philadelphia, and Sacramento each have 14 rest advantage games, tied for the most in the league, according to Positive Residual.

There are no four games in five nights in the schedule.

Other schedule notes

• Getting rest before big games. The NBA noted that teams do not play the day before these games:

*All opening-week national TV games
*All Emirates NBA Cup games
*All Christmas Day games
*The four-game Peacock/NBC schedule on Martin Luther King Jr. Day
*The 10-game ABC Saturday schedule and eight-game ABC Sunday schedule
*The 11-game NBC Sunday schedule

• Pelicans have toughest NBA schedule. Remember when the Pelicans traded their 2026 first-round pick to Atlanta so they could move up and draft Derik Queen in this year’s draft? Keep that in mind as you check out Positive Residual’s projections for the most difficult schedule in the NBA this season:

Note that an older team in the Warriors is fourth on that list, with the Mavericks fifth.

• Impact of Clippers’ new arena. Interesting note from The Athletic’s Law Murray:

• Clippers lead the league in bobblehead nights. Clippers fans love bobbleheads?

Kris Dunn is a nice player, but is he bobblehead worthy?

Watch Steph Curry knock down incredible half-court shot at his basketball Camp

Watch Steph Curry knock down incredible half-court shot at his basketball Camp originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Steph Curry still has “it,” in case you were wondering.

The Warriors sharpshooter showed off his long-range prowess at his annual “Curry Camp” on Friday, nailing a shot from well beyond the half-court line. Such performances have almost become routine for Curry, who has cemented himself as the greatest shooter in the history of professional basketball.

Curry’s camp hosted 26 local boys and girls high school basketball players in Menlo Park for an intensive experience with world-class instruction. This year is an important one for the Curry brand as the camp has expanded into Asia, with stops in Japan, China and Hong Kong, culminating in the first-annual CurryCon.

The 37-year-old has been hard at work this offseason, with a focus on improving his footwork and getting his body in tip-top condition for his 17th NBA season this fall.

Curry wasn’t the only member of his family to show off their basketball skills, as his 7-year-old son, Canon, demonstrated that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Before Curry’s emergence in the NBA, the 3-point shot was regarded as more of a novelty than a legitimate offensive strategy. Once Golden State’s dynastic run was in full swing, it became apparent that the long-range game was here to stay. Now, opponents have to guard Curry from the second he possesses the ball until he takes a shot, which has forced the 37-year-old to make a few tweaks to his game.

With Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green and Curry all back on board for the Warriors, the franchise is hopeful that the trio can take them back to the NBA Finals.

Ugandan court refuses bail to opposition politician Kizza Besigye

On August 8, the High Court of Uganda in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, denied a bail application from opposition leader Kizza Besigye and his ally Obeid Lutale in an ongoing treason case. The court determined they did not meet the minimum six-month remand period required for bail.

According to the Daily Monitor, members of Uganda’s legal community expressed concern over the ruling, describing it as inconsistent with prior precedent. The paper said that, in its view, Senior Counsel Peter Walubiri criticised Justice Baguma’s decision, interpreting it as favoring the state for its prior detention of Dr Besigye and expressing disapproval of the judge’s conduct. Nicholas Opiyo, another lawyer, suggested the ruling reflected political pressure, referencing past criticism by President Yoweri Museveni, who has accused judges of being too lenient in granting bail. “It seems the Judiciary has caught a cold following the scorn by the President not to grant bail in certain cases,” he said.

Besigye’s lawyer Lukwago likewise condemned the ruling as “disastrous”.

The pair’s legal team, formed by Senior Counsel Martha Karua, Erias Lukwago, Frederick Mpanga, Luyimbazi Elias Nalukoola and Ernest Kalibala, argued that their remand period started when they were first detained on November 20, 2024, reaching the six-month requirement by the time they requested the bail application on May 28, 2025.

The two prosecutors, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Thomas Jatiko and Chief State Attorney Richard Birivumbuka, countered their arguments, stating that the DPP was not in charge of the case during the period it was brought before the court martial, and that the actual starting time was February 21 when the pair were formally charged with treason at the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Nakawa.

Justice Emmanuel Baguma decided in favor of the prosecution, stating: “It [the evidence before the court] shows that the charges were read to the applicants on February 21, 2025. No cogent evidence was presented to this court to prove the period the applicants claim to have spent in the General Court Martial.” Baguma clarified that the court could not rely on information available in the public domain but not presented as evidence, as doing so would amount to improperly gathering evidence on its own. However, he also recognised that the applicants’ trial would be fast-tracked under High Court Session Case No. 335 of 2025 in the “interest of justice for both parties.”

In a post on social media, Winnie Byanyima, Besigye’s wife, said he and Lutale were arrested by eight men presenting themselves as Kenyan police officers, four of whom took them to Uganda in a vehicle.

According to Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, spokesperson for the People’s Front for Freedom, they were transported through the Malaba border post without stopping for routine security checks.

According to the BBC, Besigye was not seen in public for four days, reappearing on November 20 at the court martial.

They face four charges, including possession of two pistols and ammunition, as well as allegedly attempting to acquire weapons from foreign sources in Geneva, Athens, and Nairobi. Both Besigye and Lutale denied all charges.

Uganda’s Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi, said the operation was conducted with the help of Kenyan authorities, though officials in Nairobi denied any awareness of it. According to BBC, reports indicate the arrests had been planned for months, with the assistance of individuals close to them.

Besigye is a four-time challenger against President Museveni, who came to power in 1986, and previously served in the Uganda People’s Defence Force as general; he recently launched his PFF party in Kampala on July 8.

According to Reuters, critics of the government, including opposition leader Bobi Wine and rights groups, have expressed concern that the case signals a potential crackdown on the opposition ahead of the next general election, in which President Yoweri Museveni is expected to seek re-election.

MLB Players’ Weekend 2025: Dates, schedule, bats and everything to know about this 3-day event

MLB Players’ Weekend has finally arrived. Starting Friday, the league will allow its players to celebrate themselves and their personalities by relaxing some of the rules surrounding team uniforms. Players can show off with impressive footwear and custom bats.

The league originally started Players’ Weekend in 2017. It ran the event for three straight seasons before putting it on a hiatus. The celebration returned during the 2024 MLB season, albeit with modified rules. The event is back in 2025 and will mimic the 2024 celebration.

With things set to get underway Friday, here’s everything you need to know about MLB Players’ Weekend.

The event is supposed to be a celebration of the game’s players. The league will put a bigger focus on player personalities and off-the-field activities as a way for them to better connect with fans. As part of that celebration, players are allowed to wear custom cleats, gloves and use custom bats during games.

[Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season]

In previous seasons, MLB allowed players to wear nicknames on the back of their jerseys. When MLB brought Players’ Weekend back in 2024, it no longer allowed nicknames to be worn on jerseys. That policy will remain in 2025, so don’t expect to see any creative names on the back of your favorite player’s uniform this season.

Players’ Weekend will begin Friday and extend through Sunday. All 30 teams will take part in the festivities.

The league is promoting three themes during 2025 Players’ Weekend. Each day will feature its own theme, which will guide game and social-media coverage throughout the weekend.

Friday’s theme is off-field interests. Broadcasts and social-media accounts around the league are expected to promote what players do and enjoy away from the field.

Saturday’s theme will focus on causes. Which charitable causes do players support? How can fans get involved? The league will look to highlight those issues Saturday.

The weekend will end with appreciation. Players will celebrate the people who helped them on their journey to the majors. It’s fitting that appreciation is the theme on Sunday, as Players’ Weekend will end with the Little League Classic.

The Little League Classic is an annual game typically played at the end of Players’ Weekend. It takes place at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, during the Little League World Series. Because of its timing and location, the contest is attended mostly by players, coaches and fans already at the Little League World Series.

MLB has held the game every year since 2017, though the 2020 contest was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The two teams that were supposed to take part in the Little League Classic in 2020 — the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles — instead played in the contest in 2022.

The New York Mets and the Seattle Mariners will play in the Little League Classic in 2025. It will mark the second time the Mets have been chosen for the game. New York won the second Little League Classic, beating the Philadelphia Phillies 8-2 in 2018.

Though games don’t get underway until Friday, many custom bats have already leaked ahead of the weekend. Below, we’ll highlight some of the best ones.

Arizona Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte will pay homage to his mother with a bat featuring her picture. Marte was blown away after seeing the bat for the first time.

Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto opted to go with a full camo theme. He’ll use a camo bat and wear camo gear behind the plate.

Phillies outfielder Harrison Bader will pay homage to “Fortnite” with his custom bat.

Bryce Harper may have kicked off Players’ Weekend a little too early, using a flame bat during Thursday’s game.

Though, Harper may opt to use a Philly cheesesteak bat over the weekend. He showed off that custom bat during the offseason, and could use that one instead.

Other players, including Chicago Cubs catcher Carson Kelly, Kansas City Royals superstar Bobby Witt Jr. and New York Yankees outfielder Jasson Domínguez are expected to step up to the plate with food-themed bats this weekend.

Durant, Rockets reportedly have ‘no sense of urgency’ to get contract extension done

Kevin Durant is entering the final season of his current contract, paying him $54.7 million, and part of what he was looking for in a landing spot was a team willing to pay him a healthy extension off that contract. The Houston Rockets are willing to do that.

However, there is no urgency on either side to get this extension done, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon said earlier this week on NBA Today.

“There’s not a sense of urgency to get it done right now. The Rockets have other business that they need to handle this summer. … I think you’re going to see both sides take a patient approach. They will work together. I don’t think this is an urgent situation, and even if they get to camp, even if they get to the start of the season. If it’s not done, I don’t think you’re going to see panic from either side. They want to work together, they want to position themselves to win a championship.”

The deal is going to get done, the only question is money. MacMahon echoed what we have written about previously: This is not going to be a contract for the two-year, $122 million max, and the question is what number will it be? $100 million? Less? (No team can offer Durant more than two years on a contract due to the over-38 rule.)

Whatever that number ends up being, we’re a long way from any serious drama about an extension being reached. Both sides want to get a deal done, and technically they have until June 30, 2026, to work it out. Until we get to around the All-Star break, there’s not much to stress over.

Scal details biggest challenge for Tatum to return this season

Scal details biggest challenge for Tatum to return this season originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Could Jayson Tatum actually play meaningful games for the Boston Celtics in 2025-26?

That question has picked up steam recently as the superstar forward continues to attack his rehab from a ruptured Achilles in mid-May. And there’s plenty working in Tatum’s favor: He underwent surgery immediately after his injury in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, he’s just 27 years old, and he’s an incredibly hard worker, all of which could accelerate his recovery process.

But even if Tatum’s Achilles fully heals in, say, nine or 10 months, should the Celtics put him back on the court in February or March, especially if they’re fighting for a spot in the playoffs? While that sounds tempting in theory — a fully-healthy Tatum would make the C’s a serious postseason threat — former Celtic and NBC Sports Boston color analyst Brian Scalabrine would like to offer a word of caution.

🔊 Celtics Talk Podcast: Scal & Drew break down the Celtics’ 2025-26 regular season schedule | Listen & Subscribe | Watch on YouTube

“There’s a reason (the NBA season) is 82 games,” Scalabrine told co-host Drew Carter on a new Celtics Talk Podcast. “Just watch a playoff game and watch a preseason game: There’s so many levels in between. Getting thrown back into the middle of a race where you’re trying to get out of the play-in (tournament) and you’re playing these meaningful, high-level games, that is not ideal — not (just) for your Achilles, but for your body. There needs to be some build-up.”

Scalabrine clarified that he’s not putting any limitations on Tatum, adding that the superstar forward is a “top-five well-trained athlete in basketball” who takes incredible care of his body and will do everything he can to return to action as soon as possible.

But practically speaking, Scalabrine believes a late-season return would be difficult for the Celtics to manage, especially for a player of Tatum’s stature who would be expected to be his superstar self whenever he’s on the court.

“It’s easy to do it if you’re me: I sub in, it’s the second quarter, I sub out like five minutes later, and those are my minutes,” Scalabrine said. “So, is Jayson Tatum gonna start? Is he gonna end the game? There’s moments where the game is less talented. Is he gonna play in those moments?

“… How do you build up? How do you get your legs without doing it at the highest level? Is he gonna play 10 minutes a game for a month? So, that’s what I’m asking. Star players, they get thrown in there, they’re required to do everything. I don’t know if that demand on your body is too much.”

The Celtics have avoided placing any timelines on Tatum, which also means they haven’t ruled him out for the 2025-26 season. And if Tatum feels he’s healthy enough to play in February, March or even April, you know he’ll be pushing hard to make a comeback.

As Scalabrine warns, however, such a comeback might be easier said than done.

“I don’t know anything, I’m not a doctor or anything like that. I just know this: NBA basketball in October does not look like NBA basketball in April,” Scalabrine added.

“… October and April are not the same. We think (they are) because we’re there every single day and we see this natural build-up. But if you watch in October and then all of a sudden you watch playoff game, you’re gonna be like ‘Whoa, this is way different.’”

Also in this episode:

  • Celtics start the season with divisional matchups against the Sixers and Knicks.
  • When do former Celtics players make their returns to TD Garden?
  • Cooper Flagg’s debut in Boston could be the toughest ticket of the season.
  • Other notable matchups for the Celtics.

Watch Steph Curry’s son Canon adorably show off handles at dad’s basketball camp

Watch Steph Curry’s son Canon adorably show off handles at dad’s basketball camp originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Like father, like son.

Warriors superstar Steph Curry widely is regarded as one of the greatest NBA point guards of all time, and it appears his talents already are being passed down to his 7-year-old son, Canon.

The younger Curry was spotted at his dad’s annual basketball camp showing off his handles.

Canon first faked his defender to get them on the floor before showcasing multiple spin moves and then topping it off with two layups.

And just like his dad, he did it with unmatched swagger, of course.

The Curry Camp now has been around for a decade, as it continues to provide mentoring for youth athletes to empower them on their journey and what it means to be part of a team, per the Under Armour Next website.

Curry has had several now-NBA and WNBA players pass through his camp, including Trae Young, Anthony Edwards, Amen and Ausar Thompson, Jalen Green, Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd and Cameron Brink.

It might not be long until Canon is the next Curry Camp attendee that makes it pro.

Some of that has to do with a generous stroke of luck, as his Spurs won the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes in 2023, but a lot of it has to do with what he’s done to build around a 7-foot-5 Frenchman.

What roster, other than the Thunder, would you prefer to have over the next 10 years? The Spurs feature an All-Star point guard (De’Aaron Fox), an All-Star center (Wembanyama), a ton of young talent, some veteran depth and a cache of draft picks that could help make one final move. Trust Wright to make it.
