Golden State Warriors jersey history – No. 21 – Butch Beard (1973-75)

The Golden State Warriors have had over 600 players don the more than 60 jersey numbers used by their players over the more than 75 years of existence the team has enjoyed in its rich and storied history.

Founded in 1946 during the Basketball Association of America (BAA — a precursor league of the NBA) era, the team has called home the cities of Philadelphia, San Francisco, Oakland, and even San Diego.

To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Warriors Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. For this article, we begin with the third of 23 players who wore the No. 21 jersey for the Warriors.

That player would be Golden State guard alum Butch Beard. After ending his college career at Louisville, Beard was picked up with the 10th overall selection of the 1969 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks.

The Hardinsburg, Kentucky native also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Seattle SuperSonics before he was dealt to the Dubs in 1973. His stay with the team would span two seasons, coming to an end when he was traded again, this time to the Cavs again.

During his time suiting up for the Warriors, Beard wore only jersey No. 21 and put up 11.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

‘He’s going to make plays’: Toledo is excited to feature Chip Trayanum against Kentucky

A former Kentucky tailback will make his return to Kroger Field on Saturday. Chip Trayanum‘s last game with Kentucky occurred in Lexington. Now his first game with Toledo will occur in Lexington. The transfer portal era creates a lot of possibilities. UK will be tasked with trying to slow a former teammate in Week 1.

Just 13 months ago, Trayanum was entering his first season with Kentucky as a fifth-year player who was finally going to get a chance to be RB1 for an offense after playing behind NFL players at Arizona State and Ohio State. UK was going to use the tailback in a feature back role until a hand injury in fall camp lingered all season. The multi-time transfer would play in just three games before entering the portal a third time in December. Trayanum quickly landed at Toledo.

The Rockets will present Chip Trayanum the same opportunity Kentucky did last season. The only difference is that the tailback is 100 percent healthy entering the season. This MAC program believes that a big year could be ahead as Trayanum runs behind an improved offensive line.

“When he’s back there, it’s a different mentality,” Toledo offensive guard Ethan Spoth told The Toledo Blade. “There might be six or seven guys in the box, but we only need to block five or six. He’s going to handle his man. He’s going to explode off the line. He’s going to make plays.”

“He’s a special player.”

Toledo had one of the worst rushing offenses in college football last season. That was a big surprise for a system that has produced multiple 1,000-yard rusher and All-MAC performers under head coach Jason Candle. The Rockets last fall ranked No. 124 in yards per rush, No. 127 in rushing success rate, and No. 132 in EPA/rush. To help fix the problem, Toledo added multiple offensive line transfers and multiple tailback transfers. The plan is for Chip Trayanum to become the next heavy workload back. We will all see what that looks like on Saturday. The new Toledo rusher is finally ready to show what he can do as a lead back.

“This city has done nothing but welcome me with open arms,” Trayanum said. “Being here with the team, just steady grinding and steady building since January, I believe we’re ready. I’m going into it like any other game. I try to prepare like every game is a big game so emotions don’t even become a factor. For me, it’s just about staying consistent to my process, staying consistent to the film study, and then staying consistent to your assignment.”

Toledo is looking for more offensive balance. Chip Trayanum appears to be the solution. Kentucky can expect to see a former player receive a heavy workload against them on Saturday. The Rockets need the transfer to be a playmaker in this offense.

How to Watch Serbia vs Latvia at EuroBasket 2025: Nikola Jokic vs. Kristaps Porzingis

Two of the top big men in the NBA will go head-to-head Saturday — in Riga, Latvia.

Nikola Jokic and the tournament favorite Serbian squad will face host Latvia and Kristaps Porzingis in a Group A game on Saturday. Here is everything you need to know about how to watch that game.

EuroBasket 2025: Serbia vs. Latvia: How To Watch

Serbia vs. Latvia tips off Saturday, Aug. 31 at 11 AM ET (6 PM local time in Latvia).

In the United States, games can be streamed on Courtside 1891, FIBA’s official streaming platform. All EuroBasket games also can be viewed through DAZN on the Courtside app.

Jokic vs. Porzingis

Both big men come in off strong games.

Porzingis had a rough opening outing in a loss to Turkiye, but on Friday he had 22 points and seven rebounds against Estonia.

Jokic has looked like himself — the best player in the world — and dropped a casual 23 and 10 on Portugal.

Whatever happens with the big men, what makes Serbia the favorite in this matchup is its depth on the rest of the roster. Serbia features NBA players Bogdan Bogdanovic (Clippers), Nikola Jovic (Heat), Nikola Topic (Thunder) and Tristan Vukcevic (Wizards). They also have former NBA players Vasilije Micic, Filip Petrusev, and Alen Smailagic. Latvia does have former NBA player Davis Bertans.
