Ravens starting cornerback cleared to play in Week 18 vs. Steelers

The Baltimore Ravens received a huge injury boost ahead of their Week 18 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football.

Carrying a questionable injury designation into Sunday, Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey (illness) was notably absent from Baltimore’s Week 18 inactive list — a green light that he’ll play against Pittsburgh.

Earlier in the week, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was hopeful that Humphrey and Rashod Bateman, two players who were battling illnesses during practice, would play in Week 18. And while Humphrey will suit up on Sunday, Bateman was ruled out.

Colorado adds Albany EDGE Balansama Kamara in transfer portal

Colorado and Deion Sanders continued their transfer portal blitz by picking up a seventh commitment in two days. Albany transfer defensive end Balansama Kamara is the latest player to commit to Colorado.

Kamara totaled 67 tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss, and 7.5 sacks in 2025. He has one year of eligibility left. Kamara joins Yamil Talib and Lamont Lester as the three defensive line commitments the Buffs have brought in since the portal opened on Jan. 2.

247Sports ranks Kamara as a three-star transfer portal prospect and the No. 59 edge in the portal.

While Kamara is slightly heavier than Talib and Lester, he is under 260 pounds, which is on the lighter side. Whether that is an issue remains to be seen, but if he stays at his current size, he will almost certainly remain an edge defender.

Kamara’s commitment elevates Colorado’s 2026 recruiting class to No. 58 overall and No. 6 in the transfer portal class.

Green Bay Packers’ 2026 opponents are finalized after Week 18 games

MINNEAPOLIS – The Green Bay Packers won’t know their 2026 schedule until May, but they now know all their opponents.

With the regular season’s conclusion, the final pieces of the Packers‘ 2026 opponents puzzle are complete. The Packers will have a lopsided home schedule next season after playing more road games in 2026.

The home and road opponent breakdown entering Week 18 was as follows:

Home:Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, NFC East second-place finisher and AFC South second-place finisher.

Road: Bears, Lions, Vikings, New England Patriots, New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, NFC West second-place finisher.

Because the Packers finished second in the NFC North, they play the same-place finishers in those three divisions. After Week 18 results, that will put the Packers on the road against the Los Angeles Rams in 2026. The Packers will host the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys.

Some quick thoughts that stand out on the Packers’ non-divisional home opponents:

Texans: A potential Super Bowl preview between two of the league’s expected top defenses, with Jordan Love and C.J. Stroud at quarterback.

Bills: Best player coming to Lambeau Field next season will be Josh Allen.

Cowboys: Micah Parsons vs. Jerry Jones, the sequel. Perhaps this time it won’t end in a tie.

Panthers: A rematch of the Packers’ upset loss in November against the eventual 2025 NFC South champs.

Dolphins: Will Malik Willis be the quarterback?

Falcons: Thought Derrick Henry was tough to tackle, get ready for Bijan Robinson. Might be the second best player coming to Lambeau Field next season.

Latest Cody Bellinger free agency buzz: Yankees make second offer to outfielder

Here is the latest news and buzz surrounding free agent outfielder/first basemanCody Bellinger and his chances of returning to New York with the Yankees or Mets

Jan. 4, 7:09 p.m.

After making a formal offer to the outfielder earlier this week, the Yankees have reportedly made a second offer to the 30-year-old, per NY Post’s Joel Sherman.

The offer comes on the heels of the news that New York is eying starting pitcher Edward Cabrera in a possible trade with the Miami Marlins which connects to the Yankees’ offer to Bellinger because if he were to stay in New York he would likely play left field, alongside Aaron Judge in right and Trent Grisham in center.

With that outfield configuration, the Yanks could afford trading away a player like OF Jasson Dominguez to a team, like the Marlins, for a different area of need such as starting pitching, although Sherman writes that that is merely speculation.

However, it does help that both teams have been trade partners in the past which shows a willingness on both sides to get a potential deal done.

Jan. 2, 5:22 p.m.

As the offseason continues, it seems the Yankees have formally made an offer to Bellinger earlier this week, per the NY Post’s Jon Heyman.

It’s no surprise the Yankees did so, as Bellinger is the team’s No. 1 target this offseason, but Heyman added that with both sides in a weekslong standoff, the Mets can’t be ruled out.

Other teams linked to Bellinger are the Dodgers, where the outfielder started his career, and the Giants. Heyman also adds the Blue Jays as a potential landing spot if Toronto does not land Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman or Bo Bichette.

Dec. 26, 9:50 a.m.

While the holiday season has lowered the hot stove temperature, it appears the Yankees’ hopes of re-signing Cody Bellinger remain high enough.

A reunion with the star outfielder is still a priority in the Bronx, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, and the club feels “pretty confident” he won’t move boroughs for a deal over in Queens.

The pursuit of Bellinger is also endorsed by the Yankees’ captain. Heyman reports Aaron Judge is “a big advocate” for a long-term commitment with the former MVP, who hit .272 with 29 home runs and 98 RBI as a one-year rental in pinstripes last season.

It’s unclear when Bellinger will take himself off the free-agent market, but with high demand from championship contenders, some projections have him earning around $30 million annually on a six-year contract. The Yankees may have to sweeten the pot in order to convince him to stay.

Dec. 14, 7:35 p.m.

While reports indicated that the San Francisco Giants “do not anticipate making the nine-figure investment” required to sign free agents this offseason, they aren’t checked out of the marketplace altogether.

The San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser reported recently that the Giants “have checked in on” Cody Bellinger, the Yankees’ No. 1 target.

Bellinger proved to be a big part of the Yanks’ last season, contributing well on both sides of the ball with 29 home runs, 98 RBI, and a .272/.334/.480 slash line for an .813 OPS (125 OPS+ and wRC+) while ranking in the 93rd percentile in outs above average (seven) and with 12 defensive runs saved.

Dec. 4, 11:42 a.m.

While other suitors are certainly in the mix, Cody Bellinger remains the Yankees’ No. 1 target, and the club is making a “big effort” to bring him back, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Heyman lists the Mets, Phillies, Angels, and Dodgers as other possibilities.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan has previously reported that signing Bellinger would be a “multipart move” for the Yankees, as the club would almost certainly need to move one of their other outfield pieces –potentially Jasson Dominguez or up-and-coming prospect Spencer Jones.

With Trent Grisham accepting the qualifying offer, the Yanks would have a surplus of outfielders if Bellinger was to re-sign.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro agrees to three-year contract extension though 2029

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Royals manager Matt Quatraro has agreed to a three-year contract extension though 2029.

His deal includes a team option for 2030, the Royals said Sunday.

Quatraro replaced Mike Matheny after the 2022 season and has led the Royals to a 224-262 record in three years.

Kansas City improved from 56-106 during Quatraro’s first season to 86-76 in 2024, and the Royals then went 82-80 last year for their first consecutive winning seasons since 2013-15.

Quatraro finished second to Cleveland’s Stephen Vogt in 2024 AL Manager of the Year voting.

United States capture Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has been captured by the United States on Saturday at around 3 am UTC-4, according to post by US president Donald Trump on social media. Trump has told reporters Maduro had been “in a house that was more like a fortress”, in the country’s capital, Caracas. Trump justified this action by claiming that Maduro is the leader of the Cartel de los Soles, and pushing illegal immigration of dangerous individuals in the United States. Local authorities in Venezuela have requested a United Nations Security Council meeting to be held after the attack.

After the capture, the US Justice Department unsealed an indictment against Maduro in which Maduro and others were charged with “conspiracy to commit narco‐terrorism and conspiracy to import cocaine”. Maduro has denied this and has said before that Trump’s actual goal is to get access to Venezuela’s oil reserves, as indicated by the United States’ confiscation of several oil tankers.

The BBC reports airstrikes in Caracas targeting La Carlota, an airbase and Fort Tiuna, a military base where the United States suspected Maduro to be located, and in other locations. According to local authorities there has been civilian deaths and injuries, but the exact numbers are still unknown. It was also reported by the BBC that the operation was orchestrated by a CIA infiltration of the Venezuelan government. France 24 reported that the CIA had been monitoring his “every movement since August”, despite Maduro’s efforts to change location regularly. It was also reported that the operation involved more than 150 military aircraft, including one helicopter that was to capture Maduro.

According to the United States authorities, the Delta Force special operation force, arrived at Maduro’s location at “2:01 a.m. local time” and were able to capture him before he could get into his solid steel safe room (sources contradict however, on his exact location at that point. Some sources reported that Trump said Maduro was almost in his safe room whilst others said he was sleeping in his bed). They then relocated the “indicted persons” on a ship by after crossing the coastline of Venezuela at 3:29 am. Trump later revealed that Maduro’s wife, Cilia Flores, was also captured, and both were on board the USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7) with destination the southern district of New York, ultimately to be prosecuted. Attorney General Pam Bondi was quoted by the BBC saying “[he will] face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts” and, according to CNN, announced an indictment for leading “state‐sponsored gangs” and supporting drug trafficking.

Venezuelan authorities also reported other strikes, said to be made with the intent of seizing their oil and minerals, and have declared national emergency. They, along with Cuba, Colombia, Iran and Russia, have denounced the action as a “serious military aggression”. Argentine’s president, Javier Milei supported the action. Yván Gil Pinto, Venezuela’s foreign minister, said the country sought an emergency UN Security Council meeting after the attack; and Venezuela’s vice‐president, Delcy Rodríguez called for Maduro and his wife to be released, saying the operation violated the country’s territorial integrity. The BBC stated that these strikes follow a string of more than 30 strikes on Venezuelan vessels, and a strike on a “dock area” in Maracaibo, resulting in the death of more than 110 people. The Trump administration stated that it is engaging in “non‐international armed conflict with […] alleged drug traffickers”. According to the BBC, legal experts doubt the legality of these actions, saying the strikes are not against “lawful military targets”. According to CNN, Trump also justified not advising Congress before the operation to avoid a “leak”, which drew criticisms from Democrat lawmakers.

Michael Porter Jr. leads Nets to impressive 127-115 win over Nuggets

NEW YORK (AP) — Michael Porter Jr. had 27 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in his first game against his former team, and the Brooklyn Nets beat the Denver Nuggets 127-115 on Sunday to snap a three-game losing streak.

The Nuggets got Aaron Gordon and Christian Braun back from lengthy injury absences and a huge game from Jamal Murray, but fell to 1-2 since Nikola Jokic was lost for perhaps a month with a hyperextended left knee.

Murray finished with 27 points, a career-high 16 assists and six rebounds. Gordon had 20 points off the bench after missing 19 games with a strained right hamstring, while Braun started and scored four points after he sat out 23 games with a sprained left ankle.

Noah Clowney added 22 points for the Nets, while Cam Thomas and Day’Ron Sharpe each had 17. Sharpe started at center with Nic Claxton out for personal reasons.

Porter played six seasons for the Nuggets after being taken with the No. 14 pick in the 2018 draft and was a starter on their 2023 NBA championship team. He was traded to Brooklyn in the offseason for Cam Johnson and came in averaging a career-high 25.8 points.

He scored nine points in the second quarter and Brooklyn led 59-52 at halftime after Murray’s jumper with 0.2 seconds to play.

The Nets quickly opened it up again in the third quarter. Brooklyn was 7 for 9 from three-point range in the period, scoring 41 points and taking a 100-84 advantage to the fourth.

Tim Hardaway Jr. had two three-pointers to open the fourth and cut it to 10, but Thomas had the last seven points of a 12-0 spurt that blew it open at 112-90.

Hardaway scored 26 but Denver fell to 1-4 on its seven-game East Coast trip. Johnson sat out with a knee injury.

Yankees eye Edward Cabrera in trade talks with Marlins, Mets have also shown interest: reports

The Yankees and Miami Marlins are in trade talks about a potential deal for starting pitcher Edward Cabrera, according to a report by Chris Kirschner and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, who added that “no deal was close” as of Sunday morning.

The Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants are also believed to be interested, according to a subsequent report by Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the Mets have also shown interest.

The 27-year-old RHP is under team control through the 2028 campaign and estimated to make $3.75 million in this year’s arbitration, according to Spotrac.com.

In a career-high 137.2 IP across 26 games this past season, Cabrera went 8-7 with a 3.53 ERA and 1.23 WHIP. He had 150 strikeouts to 48 walks and 10 hit batters.

The 2025 campaign saw him progress from his 2024 season, in which he was 4-8 with a 4.95 ERA over 20 games and 96.1 IP.

Cabrera went 7-7 with a 4.24 ERA through 22 games (20 starts) and 99.2 IP in 2023. He was 6-4 with a 3.01 ERA in 14 games (all starts) and 71.2 IP the previous year.

His debut season, the 2021 campaign, saw him go 0-3 with a 5.81 ERA in seven games — all starts.

Cabrera’s MLB debut was Aug. 25, 2021, when he allowed three runs on four hits in 6.1 IP of Miami’s 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals.

The Marlins signed Cabrera as an international free agent from the Dominican Republic in July 2015.
