Thunder’s Alex Caruso receives technical foul for using shoe to block shot in win over Magic

After going undrafted out of Texas A&M in 2016, Alex Caruso spent the early part of his pro career doing everything he could to carve out a role for himself in the NBA.

Eventually, he became one of the league’s most tenacious defenders. Now a two-time NBA All-Defensive Team honoree, Caruso has proven he’ll do whatever it takes on that end of the floor.

The 32-year-old wing took that sentence to another level Tuesday, and it humorously cost him.

When Caruso’s left sneaker came off in the second quarter of a 113-108 road win over the Orlando Magic, he picked it up and got creative on defense.

Playing help defense in the paint, Caruso swiped his lost shoe at the left hand of Magic forward Tristan da Silva, who was going up for a layup.

Caruso made contact with the ball, and it came loose, ricocheting off da Silva’s arm and flying out of bounds.

Except, rather than resulting in an Orlando turnover, the play wound up with Caruso receiving a technical foul and the Magic being awarded the two points da Silva could have scored otherwise, plus the subsequent free throw due to Caruso being T’d up.

That sequence assisted Orlando’s comeback effort. The Magic drew within one point of the Thunder by halftime. Then they pulled in front early in the third quarter.

But the Thunder stormed back and secured their spot in this year’s playoffs. Oklahoma City is the first team during the 2025-26 campaign to punch its ticket to the postseason.

Mark Daigneault’s team has won nine games in a row and is now 54-15. The Thunder are gunning for their second straight NBA title.

Reigning league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander paced the Thunder with 40 points Tuesday. As for Caruso, he finished with just two points but also eight rebounds and two steals — and one innovative technical foul that raised eyebrows in Orlando and everywhere online.

Houston Rockets jersey history No. 9 – Dillon Brooks (2023-25)

The Houston Rockets have had players donning a total of 52 different jersey numbers (and have one not part of any numerical series for Houston assistant coach and general manager Carroll Dawson) since their founding at the start of the 1967-68 season, worn by just under 500 players in the course of Rockets history.

To honor all of the players who wore those numbers over the decades, Rockets Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who wore them since the founding of the team all those years ago right up to the present day.

With seven of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Rockets of all time to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover.

And for today’s article, we will continue with the 20th of 20 who wore the No. 9, wing alum Dillon Brooks. After ending his college career at Oregon, Brooks was picked up with the th overall selection of the 2017 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets.

The Mississauga, Ontario native played the first six seasons of his pro career with the Memphis Grizzlies after a draft night deal, coming to an end when he was dealt to Houston in 2023. His stay with the team continued until he was dealt to the Phoenix Suns in 2025.

During his time suiting up for the Rockets, Brooks wore only jersey No. 9 and put up 13.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.

Joan Garcia expected to miss ‘2-3 weeks’ for Barcelona with calf injury

BARCELONA, SPAIN – MARCH 18: Joan Garcia of FC Barcelona walks off the pitch after receiving medical treatment during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 Round of 16 Second Leg match between FC Barcelona and Newcastle United FC at Camp Nou on March 18, 2026 in Barcelona, Spain. Barcelona saw goalkeeper Joan Garcia forced off late on in Wednesday’s Champions League win over Newcastle with a calf injury.

The goalkeeper had to be replaced by Wojciech Szczęsny and now looks set for a brief spell on the sidelines for Barcelona.

According to Javi Miguel at AS, Garcia will be out for “2 to 3 weeks due to a small tear in the calf of the left leg.”

The news is a blow but the injury does come at a good time. Barcelona play Rayo Vallecano next in La Liga but domestic competition then pauses for the international break.

Garcia could then potentially be fit when Barcelona return to action on April 4th against Atletico in La Liga.

The two sides will then meet again in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie before Barcelona face Garcia’s former club Espanyol in La Liga and then head to Madrid for their second leg against Atletico.

🚨 Champions Cup: Inter Miami crash out in late draw against Nashville

🚨 Champions Cup: Inter Miami crash out in late draw against Nashville

The second legs of the Concacaf Champions Cup round-of-16 clashes are underway this week across Central and North America.

Here’s how some of tonight’s key fixtures got on.

Last laugh for Nashville as Inter Miami crash out

Scorers: Messi 7′; Espinoza 74′

Inter Miami’s 2026 campaign has taken a severe early body blow tonight after the Herons crashed out of the Concacaf Champions Cup on aggregate at the hands of MLS rival Nashville after a 1-1 draw.

An early strike from Lionel Messi, the 900th of his ludicrous career, seemingly set Javier Mascherano’s side on the pathway to progression to the quarterfinals, only for the MLS Cup holder to fall short in putting their stamp of authority on proceedings in South Florida.

In what would turn into a tale of two halves, B.J. Callaghan’s Boys in Gold would slowly but surely work their way back into the second-leg bout, ultimately being rewarded with a match-leveler from Cristian Espinoza in the 74th minute, gifting Nashville the golden away goal tie-breaker.

After eliminating Nashville from the MLS Cup playoffs last term, the full-circle result sees the Herons crash out of a competition that was deemed a priority this season.

Browns add former second round pick to round out defensive end room

In a room headlined by the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Myles Garrett, the Cleveland Browns have added a rotational player to give defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg a firm rotation to work with in NFL free agency. Cleveland has inked a one-year deal worth up to $5 million with 2020 NFL Draft second round pick and long-time Buffalo Bills pass rusher A.J. Epenesa.

Adding the 27-year-old pass rusher now gives the Browns a firm four defensive ends to rotate through on game days. The room now consists of Garrett, Alex Wright (fresh off a contract extension in-season), Isaiah McGuire, and now Epenesa. Drafted 54th overall by the Bills six years ago, Epenesa has racked up 24 career sacks and 29 tackles for loss. He went through three years from 2022 to 2024, where he had six sacks in each of those seasons.

The Browns will take that kind of production from Epenesa as their third or fourth man in the rotation.

How Epenesa fits in with the Browns

If we follow the money, the Browns will be starting Alex Wright across from Garrett next season. However, they need four solid pass rushers to get on the field. Last year, that was the combination of Joe Tryon-Shoyinka before he was traded to the Chicago Bears, and Cameron Thomas. However, Thomas has now inked a deal with the Atlanta Falcons in NFL free agency.

This leaves McGuire and Epenesa as the rotational edge rushers for the Browns to bring on the field when Garrett needs a breather or when Wright kicks inside on occasion. This does leave room for the Browns to bring in a smaller, more explosive pass rusher, either in free agency or the 2026 NFL Draft given how massive and stout all of Wright, McGuire, and Epenesa are.

Barack Obama released his March Madness brackets, OSU fans won’t be happy

Noted basketball enthusiast Barack Obama released his NCAA Tournament brackets, and fans of the Ohio State men’s team are hoping the former U.S. president is wrong.

Obama, in a post on X released by The Obama Foundation, has No. 8 seed Ohio State losing to No. 9 seed TCU in the first round. That game will be played at 12:15 p.m. March 21 in Greenville, South Carolina.

Obama has TCU losing to top-seeded Duke in the second round, and he has Duke making it all the way to the title game. He predicts No. 1 seed Arizona will win it all, though, topping Duke.

Obama correctly predicted the NCAA Tournament winner twice, and both came during his presidency. In his first presidential bracket in 2009, he guessed that North Carolina would take the title and the Tar Heels did.

He took North Carolina again in 2017 and was correct.

Obama has continued to submit brackets and share his predictions even after his time in the White House.

Obama’s picks, predictions and upsets

He doesn’t anticipate many upsets this year through the first round. There are a few games where the higher-seeded team loses to the lower-seeded team, which Obama has on his brackets. He predicts No. 9 Utah State to beat No. 8 Villanova. He also has No. 10 Missouri upsetting No. 7 Miami.

Additionally, he believes No. 9 Iowa knocks off No. 8 Clemson, while No. 10 UCF hands No. 7 UCLA its first loss.

Obama also has No. 11 South Florida topping No. 6 Louisville.

His Final Four selections are Arizona, Duke, Illinois and Iowa State.

Obama’s women’s basketball tournament bracket

On the women’s bracket, Obama has third-seeded Ohio State beating No. 14 Howard in the first round and No. 6 Notre Dame in the second. He has the Buckeyes then losing to No. 2 seed Vanderbilt in the Sweet 16.

His Final Four women’s picks are UCLA, Connecticut, Texas and South Carolina, with UConn knocking off UCLA in the big game.

Lennart Karl establishes another milestone for Bayern Munich, Champions League

MUNICH, GERMANY – MARCH 18: Lennart Karl of FC Bayern Munich celebrates scoring his team’s third goal with teammate Tom Bischof during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 Round of 16 Second Leg match between FC Bayern München and Atalanta BC at Football Arena Munich on March 18, 2026 in Munich, Germany. Bayern Munich phenom Lennart Karl has had quite a season so far, but had been quiet a bit of late.

Against Atalanta in leg two of the Champions League tie, Karl played a starring role as he had a goal and an assist to help power the Bavarians to a 4-1 victory (10-2 on aggregate). Bayern Munich will now move on to face Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals.

With his goal and assist, Karl became the youngest German player to have a goal and an assist in a Champions League match. In addition, Karl is also the youngest to do it at Bayern Munich (in any competition) as well:

Karl needed a breakout performance after a tough start in 2026. The youngster is expected to get his first senior team call-up for German on Thursday as well. This could be the start of a very important period for Karl, who is the first, true academy player to have fans this excited in quite some time.

Ty Simpson Analytical Draft Profile

Film Profile | Analytical Profile

Prospect Information

College: Alabama
Height/Weight: 6’ 1’’/211
Hands: 9 3/8″
Age: 23 (at the time of the 2026 season opener)

Important NFL Combine/Pro Day Numbers

40-Yard Dash: N/A
Vertical Jump: N/A
Broad Jump: N/A
20-Yard Shuttle: N/A
3-Cone: N/A

Model Overview — Why the Model Likes This Profile

My Quarterback Rookie Model evaluates quarterback prospects through several traits that historically translate to fantasy production. The model weighs passing efficiency growth curves, big-time throw creation, vertical passing ability, turnover avoidance, rushing production, physical thresholds and expected draft capital.

Quarterbacks who combine strong passing efficiency with vertical aggression and even modest rushing production historically produce the most reliable fantasy outcomes.

Simpson’s profile checks several of those boxes. His passing efficiency, strong touchdown-to-interception ratio and functional mobility create a balanced quarterback profile capable of producing fantasy value primarily through passing production.

The model sees Simpson as a quarterback whose ceiling depends on the offensive environment but whose profile aligns with quarterbacks that have historically developed into stable NFL starters.

Model Derived Metrics

BMI: 26.7
Functional Athleticism Score (QB model): 0.52

Simpson fits the physical profile of the modern pocket passer who can extend plays when necessary. While he is not a rushing-driven quarterback, he possesses enough mobility to navigate pressure and generate occasional scrambling production.

Quarterbacks with this profile historically generate fantasy value primarily through passing efficiency rather than rushing volume.

Efficiency Metrics

Adjusted Completion Percentage: 75.0% (43rd of 175)
Average Depth of Target: 8.7 (T-95th of 175)
Big Time Throw Rate: 6.2% (T-21st of 175)
Turnover Worthy Play Rate: 2.7% (T-55th of 175)
Drop Rate: 9.3% (T-135th of 175)
Pressure-to-Sack Conversion Rate: 18.8% (109th of 175)
Average Time to Throw: 2.94 seconds (T-141st of 175)
QB Rating: 103.2 (31st of 175)

Passing Production

2025
Games: 14
Completions/Attempts: 294 / 458
Completion Percentage: 64.2%
Passing Yards: 3,494
Yards per Attempt: 7.6
Passing Touchdowns: 28
Interceptions: 5
Dropbacks: 522
Sacks: 30
Sack Rate: 5.7%
Big Time Throws: 30 (6.2%)
Turnover Worthy Plays: 15 (2.7%)

2024
Games: 4
Completions/Attempts: 14 / 25
Completion Percentage: 56.0%
Passing Yards: 167
Yards per Attempt: 6.7
Passing Touchdowns: 0
Interceptions: 0
Dropbacks: 27
Sacks: 1
Sack Rate: 3.7%

Rushing Production

2025
Carries: 70
Rushing Yards: 292
Yards per Carry: 4.2
Rushing Touchdowns: 2
Scrambles: 33 for 207 yards
Designed Runs: 37 for 85 yards

2024
Carries: 8
Rushing Yards: 51
Yards per Carry: 6.4
Rushing Touchdowns: 1

While Simpson is not a dual-threat quarterback, he provides a modest rushing floor through scrambling ability and occasional designed runs.

Positive Indicators

Efficient passing profile

Simpson’s 28:5 touchdown-to-interception ratio reflects one of the cleaner passing profiles in the class.

Controlled aggression

The 6.2% big-time throw rate highlights a quarterback capable of pushing the ball downfield rather than functioning purely as a game manager.

Starter-level workload

Handling over 500 dropbacks in 2025 demonstrates the ability to operate a high-volume passing offense.

Areas of Concern

Time to throw

A 2.94-second average time to throw is slower than that of many NFL starters, raising questions about processing speed against NFL pressure.

Rushing ceiling

Simpson’s mobility helps stabilize his fantasy floor, but it does not project to drive elite fantasy upside.

System dependence

Because his fantasy production will rely heavily on passing volume, landing spot and offensive philosophy will significantly influence his fantasy outcomes.

Historical Model Comps

Justin Herbert
Mitch Trubisky
Jarrett Stidham
Kirk Cousins
Mac Jones

These quarterbacks represent a similar archetype: efficient pocket passers whose fantasy production is driven primarily through passing volume rather than rushing production.

Historical Fantasy Tier Outcomes

Elite QB1: 4.44%
Starter QB1: 18.57%
QB2: 30.00%
Bust / Backup: 46.99%

Historically, quarterbacks with Simpson’s statistical and athletic profile most often develop into either mid-tier starters or depth quarterbacks. While the elite fantasy outcome exists, the most common path is a quarterback who provides QB2-level production if he earns and maintains a starting role.

Early Career Fantasy Outlook

Most likely trajectory

Year 1: QB24–QB30
Year 2–3: QB18–QB26

This range reflects the most common outcome for quarterbacks with Simpson’s statistical and athletic profile. If he earns and maintains a starting role, his fantasy production would most likely land in the low-end QB2 range with occasional streaming value depending on matchup and offensive environment.

Dynasty Translation

Simpson profiles as a quarterback whose fantasy value will be driven primarily through passing efficiency rather than rushing production.

Quarterbacks with this archetype historically develop into stable QB2 options with occasional QB1 seasons in pass-heavy offenses.

If Simpson lands in an aggressive passing environment, his statistical profile suggests he could outperform the typical expectations for quarterbacks without rushing-driven fantasy production.
