Denzel Boston Provides Cleveland Browns Immediate, Dependable WR

Much like the start of Denzel Boston’s college football career at Washington, Friday night was another case of the waiting game.

So much so that he had to wait for six other names to come off the board before the Cleveland Browns took Boston with the seventh selection in the second round (No. 39 overall), giving the AFC North organization a dependable option for Shedeur Sanders.

Boston is the first of potentially seven former UW players to be drafted over the next two days and the first wide receiver from the school to be selected since Rome Odunze went No. 9 overall to the Chicago Bears in the 2024 draft.

Much different than his ex-UW teammate and potential future foe, Boston doesn’t possess nearly the same breakaway speed as Odunze, but he is just as effective and reliable with 24 starts combined the past two years, having missed only one game—against Purdue this past season—due to injury.

The former three-star recruit out of Emerald Ridge High School sat behind Odunze, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Jalen McMillan as a freshman and sophomore in 2022-23, but made 18 total appearances as a reliable run-blocking wide receiver in addition to putting up a mild 7 catches for 66 yards.

“Been great all year, honestly,” UW wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard said in October 2023 of the then-redshirt freshman Boston, who had played just 53 offensive snaps at the time behind the trio of future NFL draft picks.

“I want to reiterate something I’ve said multiple times. We love Denzel and think he’s been coming along exactly how he should be. He’s somebody we trust. He’s somebody that we can put in the game at any moment and feel like we have no drop-off, in terms of what we’re getting out there with our product.”

When Boston got his turn in 2024, he led the team with 807 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns—tied for eighth-most in UW history in a single season—while putting up the first of two 60-plus catch seasons with 63 and 62 receptions in each of the past two seasons.

Only one Browns receiver, rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr., had more than 60 receptions in 2025 with a team-high 72 catches, 22 more than wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, who finished with 17 more than tight end David Njoku had with his 33 receptions, good for third on the team last season.

With added motivation on his shoulder of falling to the second round of the 2026 NFL draft, Boston should factor in the Browns’ receiving rotation as a rookie, if not wind up winning a starting job and proving to be the same dependable target for Sanders as Boston did for both Will Rogers and Demond Williams Jr. over his time as a starter at UW.

2026 NFL Draft: Cleveland Browns pick S Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at No. 58

With the 58th pick of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns selected safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren (6-foot-3 and 203 pounds) from Toledo. The Browns traded up in the second round to grab McNeil-Warren after he had fallen a bit, with his name being one of the most-touted heading into Day 2. Cleveland gave up No. 70 overall in a trade, but will still have another third round pick today at No. 74.

Emmanuel McNeil-Warren Scouting Report

Here is a scouting report from The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, who had McNeil-Warren as the 3rd-ranked safety prospect on his board in this year’s draft class:

A three-year starter at Toledo, McNeil-Warren lined up as a boundary safety in former defensive coordinator Vince Kehres’ scheme (rotated to nickel and deep half during tempo). With five draft picks on defense over the past four years, former Toledo head coach (and current UConn head coach) Jason Candle developed a reputation for finding and developing talent with the Rockets — and McNeil-Warren is next up in the pipeline. He turned down transfer opportunities, and his trust in the Toledo staff paid off in his
development over the past four years.

Thanks to his footwork and hips, McNeil-Warren is a fluid mover with functional range and improved instincts versus the pass, which allows him to mirror and match tight ends and running backs. He drives on the football in run support and took a master’s class on the “Peanut Punch.” You’d wish there was more meat on his bones and will want to see him continue to improve his take-on and tackle-finishing skills. Overall, McNeil-Warren is an impressive size/speed athlete on the back end, who is at his best when roaming to read his keys, flow to the ball and quickly close space. He has the rangy tools to push for starting safety reps as an NFL rookie.

How McNeil-Warren fits the Cleveland Browns

The Browns have to feel really good about their safety room. They already feel confident in safeties Grant Delpit and Ronnie Hickman. Even though Jim Schwartz isn’t here any more, his defense — and many teams in the NFL — like deploying a third safety as an extra defensive back for a variety of schemes. It’s crazy how many players and positions that Browns fans looked at over the past few weeks and thought, “It’d be great if we got these guys,” and somehow, we’re actually ending up with all of them.

Houston Rockets jersey history No. 12 – Lou Williams (2017)

The Houston Rockets have had players donning a total of 52 different jersey numbers (and have one not part of any numerical series for Houston assistant coach and general manager Carroll Dawson) since their founding at the start of the 1967-68 season, worn by just under 500 players in the course of Rockets history.

To honor all of the players who wore those numbers over the decades, Rockets Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who wore them since the founding of the team all those years ago right up to the present day.

With seven of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Rockets of all time to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover.

And for today’s article, we will continue with the 12th of 16 who wore the No. 12, guard alum Lou Williams. After ending his high school career, Williams was picked up with the 45th overall selection of the 2005 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Memphis, Tennessee native played the first seven seasons of his pro career with the Sixers. He also played for the Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors, and Los Angeles Lakers before he was dealt to the Lakers in 2017. His stay with the team lasted until he was dealt to the Los Angeles Clippers that offseason.

During his time suiting up for the Rockets, Williams wore only jersey No. 12 and put up 14.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.

Vincent Kompany says league title doesn’t mean it will be youth gone wild at Bayern Munich

Just because Bayern Munich has already clinched the league, head coach Vincent Kompany insists the pitch will not not look like European version of Romper Room.

In fact, the coach says that if any young players make appearances, it will be because they have earned the right to play minutes.

“Tom Bischof, Lennart Karl — they’re still young players, right? They’re already in the squad. The others are also there to provide competition. A few are out, unfortunately. For me, it’s just about winning our games still and that the guys earn their chance. That’s nothing to do with whether we’re champions but whether the guys have earned their appearances,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Kompany will likely rotate heavily in the Bundesliga through the rest of the season, but he is correct — there is a major injury problem for some of the club’s best, young players. No doubt, Kompany will be seeking to rest his regulars more as the season winds down, but he wants to be clear — minutes granted under his tenure are earned, not gifted.

Chicago Fire make surprise decision on Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski

MADRID, SPAIN – APRIL 14: Robert Lewandowski of FC Barcelona looks on after the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 Quarter-Final Second Leg match between Club Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona at on April 14, 2026 in Madrid, Spain. (Photo by Diego Souto/Getty Images) | Getty Images

Robert Lewandowski’s future keeps on making headlines as he heads towards the end of his Barcelona contract.

MLS side Chicago Fire have been linked with the veteran Pole, with speculation claiming a two-year contract offer had been made to the striker.

It’s also been reportedly previously that Lewandowski is on Chicago Fire’s ‘discovery list’ – meaning no other club in the league can sign him without paying a fee first.

However, a move to Chicago now appears “unlikely,” according to The Athletic. Chicago Fire have cooled their interest in the striker as their “priorities have shifted.”

The report also highlights how Lewandowski’s form has dipped, while Chicago Fire’s Hugo Cuypers has been impressing with six goals in five games this season.

Lewandowski does still have admirers in Italy. He was quizzed again on his future recently, amid talk of interest from AC Milan and Juventus, and responded: “You know what… We will talk soon.”

The Dodgers and Cubs continue their weekend series with another exclusive national broadcast on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday is the Dodgers’ first game on Fox this season, which means no SportsNet LA for the series opener. But they will have Joe Davis on the national call, his first of two consecutive Dodgers Saturday telecasts for Fox.

Roki Sasaki gets the start on his bobblehead night, the third Dodgers player to play in their bobblehead game this season. Will Smith hit a game-winning two-run home run in the eighth inning on March 28, which was also his 31st birthday. Shohei Ohtani had a single and walk in his five plate appearances on April 10.

Right-hander Colin Rea starts for the Cubs.

Yankees’ Carlos Rodon pitches 4.1 scoreless innings in first rehab start

Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodón made his first rehab start for High-A Hudson Valley on Friday night as he recovers from left elbow surgery and he hit the ground running by going 4.1 scoreless innings against the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Mets‘ High-A affiliate.

Rodón allowed a hit, a Mitch Voit leadoff single, a walk and struck out four while throwing 65 pitches (43 strikes). He also hit a batter — Voit in the third — but ended his outing without surrendering a run.

At 50 pitches through three innings, Rodón went back out for the fourth inning which took him just nine pitches to complete, ending the frame with a strikeout of Colin Houck. After getting the first out of the fifth, Rodon walked the next batter, on a few questionable calls, and was pulled. He left with a 4-0 lead.

Rory Fox entered in relief and struck out two, stranding Rodón’s runner at first base.

Atlanta’s Nickeil Alexander-Walker named Most Improved Player

For the second year in a row, an Atlanta Hawk is the Most Improved Player in the NBA.

Last season, it was Dyson Daniels. This season, Nickeil Alexander-Walker earned the honor.

“Nickeil’s dedication, continual work on his craft, and the ensuing results this season make him incredibly deserving of this award,” said Hawks coach Quin Snyder. “He has a tireless work ethic and a focus on improving in every aspect of his game. His game continues to evolve, and his commitment and unselfish attitude as a teammate have also positively impacted the success of the team.”

Alexander-Walker won the award because he grew and thrived in a role that was radically different from any one he had been in before. For the previous two seasons with the Timberwolves, Alexander-Walker came off the bench and was asked to be a defensive stopper and score a little, but it was more of a 3&D role, where he averaged 9.4 points a game. This season, especially as Atlanta moved on from the Trae Young era, Alexander-Walker became a starter with the ball in his hand — and he had the best year of his career in his seventh season in the league, at age 27.

Walker Sset career highs in scoring (20.8 ppg), rebounding (3.4 rpg), assists (3.7 apg), steals (1.31 spg), minutes (33.4 mpg), field goal percentage (45.9%), three-point field goal percentage (39.9%) and free throw percentage (90.2%). Plus, he, along with Daniels, gave Atlanta arguably the best defensive backcourt in the league.

Walker got 66 first-place votes from the panel of 100 media members who voted for the award. Jalen Duren from Detroit was a clear second, with Deni Avdija from Portland third. After those three, there was a pretty steep drop off to Boston’s Neemias Queta at four and Milwaukee’s Ryan Rollins at five.

Cubs roster move: Caleb Thielbar to injured list, Vince Velasquez added

Earlier today, I reported on the Cubs roster move replacing Scott Kingery on the active roster with Nicky Lopez.

The Cubs transactions page had noted Kingery was optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Now, there’s been another move. As you know, Caleb Thielbar left Thursday’s game with a hamstring injury. This is how that happened [VIDEO].

Before Friday’s game at Dodger Stadium, the Cubs placed Thielbar on the 15-day injured list and added right-hander Vince Velasquez to the active roster. To make room for Velasquez on the 40-man roster, Kingery was designated for assignment.

The 33-year-old Velasquez has a 3.71 ERA (7 ER/17.0 IP) and 19 strikeouts in four games (three starts) with Iowa this season. He leads the I-Cubs in innings pitched and is tied for second in strikeouts. The right-hander signed a minor league contract with an invite to major league spring training with the Cubs on February 13, 2026.

In 191 career major league games, including 144 starts, with Houston (2015), Philadelphia (2016-21), San Diego (2021), the White Sox (2022), and Pittsburgh (2023), Velasquez is 38-51 with a 4.88 ERA (414 ER/763.2 IP), 822 strikeouts, 307 walks, and a 1.37 WHIP. He holds a 34-19 record with three saves, a 3.27 ERA (158 ER/434.1 IP), and 513 strikeouts compared to 173 walks in 109 minor league games (82 starts) across parts of 12 seasons.

I would think Velasquez will work long relief for the Cubs, which might free up Javier Assad to close — Assad did a real nice job in the 10th inning Thursday. Or Assad could set up for Ben Brown.

Lopez will wear No. 5 and Velasquez will wear No. 56.

As always, we await developments.

Giants GM Joe Schoen: Kayvon Thibodeaux trade talk reports “not true”

Giants General Manager Joe Schoen strongly denied a report concerning trade talks involving edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.

A report shortly before the start of the the second round of the draft indicated that the Giants were talking to the Saints and others about a trade that would move Thibodeaux off of the Giants’ roster. Schoen said on Friday night that there was no validity to that report.

“We have not had any conversations about Kayvon Thibodeaux today,” Schoen said, via multiple reporters. “That’s not true.”

Thibodeaux is heading into the final year of his contract and Thursday night’s addition of Arvell Reese gives the Giants a lot of options off the edge, so a Thibodeaux trade seemed like a possible way to address other needs. It does not look like such a move is on the horizon, however.
