Playoff Game Thread: Knicks vs 76ers, Game 2, May 6, 2026

May 4, 2026; New York, New York, USA; New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson (11) talks to center Karl-Anthony Towns (32) during the fourth quarter of game one of the eastern conference semifinal round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden. Tonight, the New York Knicks (1-0) host the Philadelphia 76ers (0-1) at Madison Square Garden in Game Two of the Eastern Conference semifinals. New York obliterated Philly in Game One and can seize firm control of the series with another win at the Mecca. The Sixers have too much talent and pride to roll over and die, so they’re sure to come out swinging tonight. As of this writing Joel Embiid is listed as probable for Philadelphia (ankle). The Knicks appear to be fully healthy.

Game’s at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN. This is your game thread. This is Liberty Ballers. Please don’t post large photos, GIFs, or links to illegal streams in the thread. Show those Philly fans what good behavior looks like. And go Knicks!

The Minnesota Timberwolves upset the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 thanks to an offensive outburst in the fourth quarter.

My Timberwolves vs. Spurs predictions and NBA picks for Wednesday, May 6 expect Minnesota to lean into that fourth-quarter recipe once again, which means parking Rudy Gobert on the bench.

Don’t miss tip-off at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

  • UPDATE: Added a pick for who will win for tonight.

Timberwolves vs Spurs Game 2 prediction

Who will win Timberwolves vs Spurs Game 2?

Spurs: Factoring desperation into a betting line is a bit beyond usual algorithms, but it should absolutely be a nod in San Antonio’s direction in Game 2. Losing both home games to start this series would rightfully frighten everyone in the Spurs organization.

Timberwolves vs Spurs best bet: Rudy Gobert Under 11.5 rebounds (-130)

The Minnesota Timberwolves entered the fourth quarter Monday night trailing the San Antonio Spurs by three. Rudy Gobert went to the bench for the next 10:16; when he returned, the Timberwolves led by seven.

Minnesota had scored 32 points in those 10 minutes, already eight more than it had in any previous quarter. A five-out lineup featuring Julius Randle and Naz Reid as the Timberwolves’ big men pulled Victor Wembanyama too far from the hoop to bolster his inflated blocks stats, and suddenly, Minnesota could score.

Expect more of that look in Game 2, costing Gobert minutes as the game wears on.

COVERS INTEL: The Spurs outscored the Timberwolves 45-40 in the 21:32 that both Gobert and Wembanyama were on the court in Game 1.

Timberwolves vs Spurs Game 2 same-game parlay

Fewer Rudy Gobert minutes should help both Minnesota’s and San Antonio’s offenses. In the 21:32 that Gobert faced Wembanyama, the Spurs’ offensive rating was 104.7 while the Timberwolves’ was 93. For the entirety of the game, San Antonio’s offensive rating was 106.3 while Minnesota’s was 108.3.

The math does not need to delve further than that. Gobert serves a purpose in this series, but his minutes need to be limited compared to Wembanyama’s, and that should propel both offenses.

Timberwolves vs Spurs SGP

  • Rudy Gobert Under 11.5 rebounds
  • Rudy Gobert Under 8.5 points
  • Over 215.5

Our “from downtown” SGP: Wemby’s shifted focus

First of all, at least four of Wembanyama’s Game 1 blocks should have been called either goaltends or fouls. That is of note because Minnesota is absolutely going to bring that to the attention of the NBA between Games 1 and 2.

Second of all, fewer Rudy Gobert minutes will pull Wembanyama further from the hoop, and that alone should lessen his rebounding total.

Lastly, Wembanyama spent some of Monday’s postgame press conference lamenting how much energy he spent on defense, taking away from his offense. He may overcorrect in that regard, obviously only furthering Over thoughts.

Timberwolves vs Spurs SGP

  • Victor Wembanyama Under 4.5 blocks
  • Victor Wembanyama Under 12.5 rebounds
  • Victor Wembanyama Over 26.5 points
  • Over 215.5

Timberwolves vs Spurs odds for Game 2

  • Spread: Timberwolves +10 (-110) | Spurs -10 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Timberwolves +350 | Spurs -450
  • Over/Under: Over 213 (-110) | Under 213 (-110)

Timberwolves vs Spurs betting trend to know

After Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch said his team “lied” to him all season, evidenced by their Game 1 loss at Denver, Minnesota has gone 5-1 against the spread, exceeding bookmakers’ expectations by an average of 14.5 points, even when including the ATS loss. For what it’s worth, that ATS loss came by just the hook. Find more NBA betting trends for Timberwolves vs. Spurs.

Jarred Vanderbilt doubtful, Luke Kennard questionable for Game 2 vs. Thunder

LOS ANGELES, CA – APRIL 21: Jarred Vanderbilt #2 of the Los Angeles Lakers warms up before the game against the Houston Rockets on April 21, 2026 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. While losing Game 1 against the Thunder was tough for the Lakers, winning Game 2 won’t get much easier.

The team released its injury report ahead of their next contest, listing Jarred Vanderbilt as doubtful and Luke Kennard as questionable.

For Vando, not being automatically ruled out is actually good news.

He suffered a gruesome injury in Game 1 when he dislocated his right pinky finger on a failed block attempt. This wasn’t a typical dislocation as his bone poked through the skin, causing the forward to scream in agony while the Thunder bench looked away in shock.

Vando was out for the rest of the contest.

However, during Wednesday’s practice, Lakers head coach JJ Redick said that Vando was considered day-to-day.

The Lakers’ medical staff deserves a ton of credit for treating Vando quickly and getting him into a situation where he is not automatically ruled out.

The surprise from this injury report, though, is the inclusion of Kennard.

He is a key rotational player for the Lakers, and this is the first time we are hearing about neck discomfort for the guard. The Lakers need all the help they can get to beat the defending champs. If he can’t play, that is a huge blow.

Kennard is questionable, so we’ll have to wait until closer to game time to see if he’s upgraded to available. If he can’t play, then players like Bronny James and Nick Smith Jr. will have to step up in his absence.

Luka Dončić remains out, but he spoke with the media and provided an update on his health.

Unfortunately, it’s not a positive one. Dončić is still out, hasn’t done any full-contact work and his original projected time to return is at the end of May.

If he doesn’t come back before then, Los Angeles will have to play the entire series against OKC without their best player.

If that happens, then LeBron James will have to be magnificent, and Austin Reaves will have to play a whole lot better so that they can extend the season long enough for Dončić to play again.

Cubs’ Matthew Boyd reportedly tears meniscus ‘sitting down to play with his kids’

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Matthew Boyd will miss the foreseeable future due to a freak injury. Boyd, 35, needs meniscus surgery, per ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, and reportedly suffered the injury while “sitting down to play with his kids.”

There is currently no timetable for Boyd’s return; the assumption is that if he is able to return this season, it would be after the All-Star break.

Boyd has started five games this season, working to a 2-1 record with a 6.00 ERA. He last pitched on May 3, earning his second win after six strong innings, allowing two runs against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Boyd walked one and struck out five in the victory.

The Cubs are currently 24-12, atop the NL Central, but the injuries are mounting. Starter Justin Steele suffered a setback at the end of April with his elbow injury and is now not expected back until after the All-Star break.

As of May 6, Chicago has 10 pitchers in its organization on the injured list, with Boyd soon to be the 11th.

Boyd, who suffered the injury while sitting down to play with his children, is the latest freak accident that has caused a player to hit the IL.

Here’s a limited sampling of bizarre accidents to baseball players over the past decade and a half:

Knowing baseball, there will certainly be more down the line.

10 Hacks Every DuckDuckGo User Should Know

DuckDuckGo has been my default search engine for years. Its big selling point is that it doesn’t track you nearly as much as Google does, but there’s more to DuckDuckGo than that privacy claim. You can use DuckDuckGo to anonymously try AI chatbots (including ChatGPT and Claude), filter out AI-generated images from results, and shorten URLs without leaving the site. If you’re using DuckDuckGo, try these 10 hacks to make the most of the search engine.

Turn off AI features to simplify your search experience

DuckDuckGo recently added a bunch of AI features, but, luckily, you can turn off most. To disable AI-related features in DuckDuckGo, go to the search engine’s settings page. Next, select AI Features, then turn off Search Assist and Duck.ai. This will eliminate AI results and prompts to try using chatbots from the search engine’s home page.

Use AI chatbots anonymously to preserve your privacy

On the flip side, let’s say you’re interested in AI chatbots, but are worried about your privacy. You can use DuckDuckGo to use ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI services anonymously. To get started, head to Duck.ai. A drop-down menu below the search box allows you to choose which LLM you wish to use, and once you’ve selected that, you can use your preferred AI service without creating an account. This service is free, but there’s a daily limit to how many AI searches you can perform. The same service also lets you generate images and perform basic photo edits, such as removing a background from your image.

Use “bangs” to search other websites and search engines

DuckDuckGo is a pretty competent search engine, but it doesn’t always show you the same results as Google. If you’re using DuckDuckGo as your default search engine, you can still ask it to send the search query to Google. To do this, add !g to your search query, and you’ll see that the search results appear on Google. This is called a bang, and you can use bangs in DuckDuckGo to search via other search engines and websites, too. For example, !gi searches Google Images, !w looks for something on Wikipedia, and !r does a Reddit search. You can see the full list of DuckDuckGo bangs on this page.

Hide AI-generated images from results to focus on real pictures

DuckDuckGo ships with a filter that removes AI slop from image search results. The filter is decent at the job, but be aware that it can’t remove every single AI image from the results. You can enable it by going to DuckDuckGo settings > AI Features > Hide AI-Generated Images.

Use this option to block certain sites from your search results

If you’ve come across sites with low-quality content on the web, and you wish to block them from your search results, you can do that with DuckDuckGo. The next time you search for something on the site, click the three dots to the right of any result, then click Block this site from all results. That domain will no longer appear in search results. You can go to DuckDuckGo settings > General to see a list of blocked domains. You can unblock domains too at any time.

Get rid of DuckDuckGo’s ads to clean up the experience

You can also disable DuckDuckGo’s search ads, and all the mentions of the company’s other products on the home page. Head over to DuckDuckGo settings > General, and turn off Advertisements. This will turn off search ads, but note that the company says it doesn’t track you to serve these ads. To remove prompts to use other DuckDuckGo products, scroll to the bottom of the same settings page, and turn off the following:

  • Install DuckDuckGo

  • Privacy Newsletters

  • Homepage Privacy Tips

  • Help Improve DuckDuckGo

You can also go to the Appearance section in DuckDuckGo settings, and turn off the last option: ‘Protected’ Reminder. This will hide the notice that says your searches are protected.

Change this setting to see more information under search results

If you prefer to see more information about a particular search result, this search engine allows you to expand the length of the descriptions that appear below each link. I’ve expanded mine from three lines to five, which gives me enough information to decide if a link is worth clicking. You can set this up by going to DuckDuckGo settings > Appearance > Max Snippet Length. Use the drop-down menu to change this to 5 lines.

Use this shortcut to shorten URLs

Credit: Pranay Parab

DuckDuckGo has a built-in URL shortener, too. Copy a URL and use the shorten command in the search engine to use it. For instance, type “shorten https://lifehacker.com/tech/15-of-the-best-iphone-privacy-hacks-everyone-should-know” in the search engine, and click the search button. The first result will be a shortened URL, which uses the is.gd URL shortener. Similarly, you can also expand shortened URLs via DuckDuckGo. Just type “expand” followed by the shortened link, and the search engine will show you the full URL in the search results.

Hide your email address when signing up for new accounts

It’s common security advice to use a password manager and a unique password for each of your accounts. The idea is simple: If one account is breached, the hacker doesn’t gain access to all your other accounts. You can apply the same logic to your username, which is your email address on most websites. If you’re using the same email ID to sign up for each site, it could also be a potential attack vector for hackers.

This is where services like DuckDuckGo’s Email Protection step in. You can use it to sign up for a Duck email address, which generates a unique email address for each account you create. If an account gets breached, you don’t have to worry about your email address being sold on the dark web. Similarly, if a shady website sells its data to advertisers, they’ll only get an anonymized email address, and not your real one. You can use that to identify who sold your data, and block that alias quickly.

DuckDuckGo also has “cheatsheets” for multiple apps and services, which show you commonly used keyboard shortcuts for a given app. For example, go to DuckDuckGo, then type “cheatsheet Excel,” and the search engine displays a list of Microsoft Excel keyboard shortcuts at the top of the results. The initial result shows five to 10 keyboard shortcuts, but you can click the “Show More” button to reveal hundreds of shortcuts. This feature doesn’t work for every app, but you can try it for popular apps such as Photoshop, Lightroom, and Chrome. Be sure to verify the information on this page, since keyboard shortcuts sometimes change when an app is updated.

Tyler Glasnow and Lance McCullers Jr. both exit with injuries in Dodgers’ blowout of Astros

Both the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros saw their injury-prone starting pitchers deal with issues Wednesday. It hurt the Astros more.

Tyler Glasnow and Lance McCullers Jr. were out of the game by the end of the third inning of a 12-2 Dodgers blowout, which was keyed by the first three-homer game of Andy Pages’ career.

Before the Dodgers offense broke out for a dozen runs, Glasnow exited the game while warming up for the second inning. The Dodgers later announced he left due to lower back pain.

Before leaving, Glasnow posted the 1,000th strikeout of his career, becoming the fastest player to reach that mark by innings pitched at only 793. He had been a standout for the team entering Wednesday, with a 2.56 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings across six starts.

McCullers encountered his issues in the second inning, when he appeared to have an issue with his finger. He remained in the game and ended up getting tagged for six earned runs, three of which scored on wild pitches.

You can see him looking at his fingers after the first run scored.

Pages provided the knockout blow in the third inning with a three-run homer to make it 6-1.

McCullers told reporters after the game that a portion of the fingernail on his right index finger “popped off” during the third inning and was unsure if he would be able to make his next start, per The Athletic’s Chandler Rome.

Glasnow, meanwhile, said his back issue is something that has cropped up every year since his growth spurt in high school, but he will still undergo an MRI, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts reportedly said an injured list stint was unlikely for the right-hander.

Injuries are obviously nothing new for Glasnow or McCullers. Both pitchers have a decade of experience in MLB, and only one season of at least 140 innings pitched between them (McCullers’ 162 1/3 in 2021).

It’s been four years since McCullers was last performing like an above-average starting pitcher, while Glasnow has been excellent when on the mound for the Dodgers, with a 3.25 ERA in three seasons with the club.

In this case, both pitchers appear to have encountered injuries more inconvenient than serious. The Astros in particular can’t afford any more injuries, with Hunter Brown, Tatsuya Imai, Cristian Javier, Josh Hader, Jeremy Peña and many more already on the injured list. Carlos Correa was also ruled out for the rest of the season earlier Wednesday.

The Dodgers’ win improved their record to 23-14, keeping them atop the NL West, while the Astros remain in fourth place in the AL West with a 15-23 mark.

Tigers’ Triple-A manager Gabe Alvarez reportedly dismissed due to harassment allegation

The Detroit Tigers announced on May 5 that the contract for Triple-A manager Gabe Alvarez was abruptly terminated due to a “violation of club policy.”

On May 6, sources told The Athletic that the termination was the result of a human resources investigation into Alvarez stemming from alleged harassment claims from a female employee.

Alvarez had served as the manager of Triple-A Toledo since 2025. Viewed by some as an up-and-coming coach, he’d been the manager for Detroit’s Double-A affiliate in Erie for the three years prior, winning the Eastern League in both 2023 and 2024.

Mike Hessman was named the interim manager in Toledo. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch was asked about the situation on Tuesday, and he said, per the Detroit News: “I talked to Hess this morning to establish kind of a cadence for our communication. I don’t have any comment on the whole thing. But in terms of my confidence in Hess to handle the transition, he’s going to handle things very well. He’s a good communicator. He and I talk regularly already when he was the hitting coach.”

The Athletic also reported that the “HR department for Ilitch Sports + Entertainment — the Tigers’ parent company — was made aware of a complaint against Alvarez on Monday night.” Their handbook reportedly states that a violation would result in disciplinary action, which could include “immediate termination. “

When asked for a comment, neither Alvarez nor his representation responded to The Athletic.

The now former manager played for Detroit between 1998 and 2000 before he was traded to the San Diego Padres. Nearly 10 years later, he got into coaching, becoming an assistant at the University of Southern California.

This is the second reported incident in the Tigers organization in the last 13 months — last April, assistant GM Sam Menzin resigned after an internal investigation reportedly revealed he sent “lewd, unsolicited photos” to several female team employees.

Baseball Bar-B-Cast: Framber Valdez’s behavior ’embarrassing and it’s selfish and it’s stupid’

On the latest episode of Yahoo Sports’ “Baseball Bar-B-Cast,” hosts Jordan Shusterman and Jake Mintz delved into the chaos surrounding Framber Valdez’s recent actions on the mound that got him a five-game suspension, a moment that could have significant implications for a Detroit Tigers team already reeling from injuries and setbacks.

Here’s a breakdown of what happened, why it matters and what it means for the Tigers moving forward.

During a rough Tuesday night outing against the Boston Red Sox, Valdez let his frustrations spill over. After being roughed up by the Red Sox for 10 runs (seven earned), including surrendering back-to-back home runs to Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu, Valdez plunked Trevor Story with a fastball. The intentional nature of the pitch was clear to most watching, and as Shusterman put it, “This is one of the more obvious intentional hit by pitches we’ve ever seen.”

Despite Valdez’s postgame denial, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch all but confirmed the egregiousness of the act:

“We play a really good brand of baseball here,” Hinch said, via the Detroit News. “That didn’t feel like it. I’m not judging intent, but I know when you go out on the field in those confrontations, you usually feel like you are in your right. It didn’t feel good being out there.”

This rare admission from Hinch, stopping just short of naming Valdez’s intent outright, underscores how out-of-line the moment was.

It should be noted that Tigers broadcaster Andy Dirks, hilariously, didn’t see what the fuss was about:

The Tigers, once seen as the AL Central frontrunner, suddenly find themselves on shaky ground. Valdez’s suspension exacerbates a pitching rotation already decimated with injuries.

Tarik Skubal, Detroit’s ace, is sidelined after elbow surgery with an uncertain return. Other starters — Casey Mize, Reese Olson, Troy Melton, Justin Verlander and Jackson Jobe — are also dealing with injuries.

With so many arms down, Valdez was supposed to be the stabilizer. Now, with a five-game suspension, Detroit faces another hole.

“For a Tigers team right now that cannot afford to lose anybody … he’s going to get suspended long enough to miss at least one start,” Shusterman said. “And that’s just the last thing the Tigers need right now.”

The pitching staff has become a liability in the AL Central race. And one of the reasons isn’t due to injury.

Mintz pulled no punches in criticizing Valdez.

“It’s embarrassing and it’s selfish and it’s stupid and it doesn’t accomplish anything … There is nothing to come of this. For Framber Valdez, there is only negatives. That is why it is such an irrational decision. If I’m on the Tigers, I’m so frickin’ steamed about it.”

Hinch, who vouched for Valdez in the offseason, will serve a one-game suspension.

In a season already teetering because of injuries, Valdez’s poor decision to throw at a batter could haunt the Tigers well beyond a single game. As the dust settles, Detroit must now manage not only a battered pitching staff but also the fallout from a moment of anger that may have lasting consequences.

As Shusterman succinctly put it:

“It’s just so disappointing … It’s a really crappy feeling for him. And really disappointing moment for the Tigers. Made an ugly week.”

Rays shut out Blue Jays, polish off MLB-best fifth sweep of season as winners of 12 of their last 13 games

It looks like Shane McClanahan has rediscovered the mojo that made him a two-time All-Star before a pair of major arm surgeries sidelined the southpaw for two and a half seasons.

The Tampa Bay Rays left-handed pitcher spun 5 2/3 innings of shutout ball Wednesday during a 3-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Tropicana Field.

With that performance, the 29-year-old McClanahan has strung together three straight scoreless starts for the first time in his career. He’s scattered 16 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings along the way and, according to StatMuse, is the only pitcher with 15 innings pitched and zero earned runs in that span.

His changeup and curveball were working against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, and the Rays’ bullpen picked up where he left off to ensure their streak of games allowing three or fewer runs increased to a franchise record 13. That’s tied for the second-longest streak of that variety in the wild-card era, per MLB.com. Tampa Bay needs five more games of that kind to match the 18 such games the San Francisco Giants stacked during the 2010 campaign. That season, the Giants won the first of the three World Series that made up their 2010s dynasty.

This year’s Rays have secured an MLB-best five sweeps this season. They’ve won six consecutive games and 12 of their last 13. They’re 22-7 since they started the year 2-5.

It’s early May, and Tampa Bay is flirting with first place in the AL East. Following their latest win over the Blue Jays (16-21), the Rays (24-12) drew within one game of the division-leading New York Yankees.

McClanahan is part of a Rays pitching staff that came into Wednesday with the fifth-best ERA (3.65) in the majors. He’s part of a starting rotation that also features righties Nick Martinez and Drew Rasmussen, who are sparkling with ERAs of 1.71 and 2.95, respectively.

After battling back from Tommy John surgery and then an operation that addressed a nerve issue in his left triceps, McClanahan has returned to form and turned in the type of stretch he didn’t even deliver pre-injuries.

Longtime Rays manager Kevin Cash removed McClanahan in the sixth inning Wednesday. By then, Tampa Bay had scored two of its three runs in the victory, thanks to a fourth inning that featured an RBI double from Jonny DeLuca and an RBI single from fellow outfielder Chandler Simpson.

Cash’s Rays are hoping to reach the playoffs for the first time in three seasons. This spring surge is slingshotting them into great position as the summer nears.

Tigers pitcher Framber Valdez accepts 5-game suspension for throwing at Red Sox’s Trevor Story

Framber Valdez’s ejection on Tuesday night is going to cost him.

Major League Baseball hit the Detroit Tigers starter with a six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine on Wednesday. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch was assessed a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for Valdez’s actions, too. Hinch will serve his suspension on Wednesday night.

Valdez’s suspension was later reduced to five games, likely because he either did not appeal or chose to drop an appeal. He will be eligible to return on May 12.

Valdez, however, did not see the suspension coming.

“I do not expect to get suspended,” Valdez said on Tuesday night, via The Athletic. “If it would have been on purpose, I would have gone towards the hitter, saying something, yelling something, threatening them or something like that, which didn’t happen. I was just calm, just staying out of the situation. I let the benches clear, and nothing happened. I even left the field in a quiet way, because, of course, it was not on purpose.”

Valdez was thrown out of the Tigers’ 10-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night after he drilled Trevor Story in the shoulder. That led to his immediate ejection, and sparked a benches-clearing incident.

The benches-clearing moment didn’t really lead to much. Story was held back and kept away from Valdez, and it ended up being a bunch of players standing around before the two sides were eventually separated. When it comes to benches-clearing incidents, this one was undoubtedly on the tame end, as there was no brawl whatsoever.

But the pitch in question came immediately after Valdez gave up back-to-back home runs. Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu each hit solo shots to start the fourth inning, which pushed the Red Sox’s lead to eight runs at the time.

It even drew criticism from Hinch.

“We play a really good brand of baseball here. That didn’t feel like it,” Hinch told the Detroit News’ Chris McCosky. “I’m not judging intent. But I know when you go out on the field in those confrontations, you usually feel like you are in your right. It didn’t feel good being out there.”

Valdez’s pitch was classified as a four-seam fastball at 94 mph. Valdez has thrown only a single four-seamer all season. He told The Athletic after the game that there was no ill-intent on the pitch, and called his ejection “completely unfair.”

“It wasn’t intentional or anything. Anybody can have a pitch get away from them in that situation,” Valdez said through an interpreter.

Valdez signed a three-year, $115 million deal with Detroit this past offseason. The 32-year-old holds a 2-2 record in eight starts this season with a 4.57 ERA. This is just the latest incident he’s faced in his career. Valdez got into it with his own catcher, César Salazar last season and actually hit Salazar in the chest protector. Valdez denied intentionally crossing up his catcher, though Salazar tried to get him to step off the mound just before he threw the pitch.

The Tigers, who have lost two straight, enter Wednesday’s matchup with the Red Sox with an 18-19 record.
