After seeming like the game would certainly start in a delay, the Mariners and Twins are now tracking to get underway close to on-time for tonight’s series opener. If there are further delays we will update this post.

Lineups:

Josh Naylor returns to the Mariners lineup after sitting out yesterday’s game with quad tightness, just in time to play on a soggy field. Cool. Hope the first base side was extra-tarped.

I did the series preview for the Twins with Jake and looked at the last six Twins lineups. All of them were different, and yet none of them looked exactly like this. They really are just trying stuff out over there still.

Today’s Game Information:

Scheduled time: 4:40 PT

Actual start time: ???

Radio: 710 AM Seattle Sports, with Gary Hill Jr. and Ryan Rowland-Smith

Game Thread: Angels (12-17) at White Sox (11-17) (delayed, rain)

Anthony Kay will look to lower his ERA against the Angels tonight. | Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

The White Sox will get their first look at the Angels this evening in an evenly matched series. Unfortunately, the game will be delayed by rain and additional storms coming through the area.

But before the game gets rolling, some news — both good and bad.

The good news: Sean Burke joined James Baldwin on July 14, 1996 at Kansas City (76 pitches over eight innings) and Mélido Pérez on June 1, 1990 vs. Minnesota (76 over 7 2/3) as the only White Sox pitchers since 1990 to throw 7 1/3-plus innings pitched on 76 pitches or fewer. Congrats to Burke on the great accomplishment during Sunday’s game!

And now for the bad: Tanner Murray suffered a fracture in his shoulder, requiring surgery. His recovery is set at four to six months, so there is a good chance the rookie is out for the season.

With one man down, the White Sox were able to reinstate Austin Hays, who suffered a right hamstring strain on April 6. He’ll set tonight, given his rehab assignment at Triple-A lasted all of two games.

Anthony Kay (1-1, 5.57 ERA) is on the mound tonight. Unlike much of the starting staff, Kay has struggled in recent starts.

Jack Kochanowicz will be on the mound for the visiting team. Kochanowicz is 2-0 with an ERA of 3.1o, so the chilly White Sox offense could be in trouble.

First pitch was scheduled for 6:40 p.m. CT, now delayed by rain. You can watch the game on CHSN or listen on ESPN Chicago 1000.

Cooper Flagg named NBA Rookie of the Year, beating out Kon Knueppel

Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg was voted as the NBA Rookie of the Year for the 2025-26 season on Monday, April 27, 2026.

Flagg finished ahead of the Charlotte HornetsKon Knueppel in a close race for the award. Flagg earned 56 first-place votes and totaled 412 points, while Knueppel had 44 first-place votes and 386 total points. The 26-point gap between them is the second smallest between the top-two finishers since the current voting format began in 2002-03, behind only a 15-point gap in 2021-22 when Scottie Barnes edged Evan Mobley for the award.

The Philadelphia 76ers‘ VJ Edgecombe finished third with 96 total points and one second-place vote.

Flagg joined two NBA icons by winning Rookie of the Year.

He became the second-youngest winner (19 years, 112 days as of April 12, the final day of the regular season), behind only LeBron James (19 years, 106 days in 2003-04). And, he joined Michael Jordan as the only rookies to lead their team in total points (1,473), rebounds (466), assists (316) and steals (84) since steals were first recorded in 1973-74.

This is a truly great honor,” Flagg said. “I’m grateful to receive this award and thankful to everyone in the Dallas Mavericks organization who believed in me from day one. None of this happens without my teammates, coaches and the people around me pushing me every day. I came here to compete and help this team win. This is just one step forward in what we’re building.”

Flagg was the first overall selection by the Mavericks in the 2025 NBA Draft. He ranked 24th in points per game across the league.

He had to show versatility early in the season, playing point guard before eventually moving to forward after Anthony Davis was traded.

Cooper Flagg stats

Flagg finished out the regular season averaging 21 points (leading all rookies), 6.7 rebounds (fourth among rookies) and 4.5 assists per game (second among rookies) in 70 games played. He shot 46.8% from the field and 29.5% from the 3-point line.

He scored a career-high 51 points on April 3 against the Orlando Magic, becoming the youngest player in the league’s history to score 50+ in a game at 19 years, 103 days old. Flagg was also the first rookie to have four or more games with at least 40 points since Allen Iverson in 1996-97.

2025-26 NBA Award winners

Mavericks star Cooper Flagg named NBA Rookie of the Year over Kon Knueppel in historic race

Cooper Flagg was named NBA Rookie of the Year on Monday over fellow finalist and former Duke teammate Kon Knueppel, marking the first time players from the same college team finished first and second in voting.

Flagg joined the Dallas Mavericks as the No. 1 pick in last year’s NBA Draft with enormous expectations that he largely met during a standout rookie campaign.

Flagg developed into the Mavericks’ best player and finished the season with averages of 21 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.9 blocks per game while shooting 46.8% from the field and 29.5% from the 3-point line. He beat out Knueppel in what was largely seen as a two-man race for the award down the stretch of the regular season.

Philadelphia 76ers guard VJ Edgecombe was a finalist for the award alongside Flagg and Knueppel.

Flagg secured 56 out of 100 first-place votes. Knueppel tallied the other 44.

Flagg is the second-youngest player in league history to claim the Rookie of the Year award, behind only LeBron James. His race with Knueppel was the second-closest finish since the current voting format started during the 2002-03 campaign. Flagg earned 12 more first-place votes than Knueppel did, and beat him by only 26 total points. Only Scottie Barnes’ win over Evan Mobley during the 2021-22 season was a closer finish.

Knueppel, the No. 4 pick in the draft by the Charlotte Hornets, exceeded expectations as one of the league’s most efficient shooters during his own standout rookie campaign. He averaged 18.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting 47.5% from the field and 42.5% on 7.9 3-point attempts per game.

Knueppel’s 273 made 3s were the most in the NBA. His development helped the Hornets improve from 19-63 in 2024-25 to 44-38 in 2025-26. Charlotte was one of the league’s hottest teams in the NBA after the All-Star break and ultimately made the play-in before losing to the Orlando Magic with a playoff spot on the line.

While Knueppel’s efficiency and impact on winning were notable, voters ultimately recognized Flagg’s all-around performance in awarding him Rookie of the Year.

Flagg is the third Maverick to win Rookie of the Year, joining Jason Kidd (1995, tied with Grant Hill) and Luka Dončić (2019). The stunning trade of Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2024-25 season set the stage for Flagg to join the Mavericks and win the award in Dallas.

The Mavericks fell to the lottery after the trade and secured the No. 1 pick despite being tied for the third-lowest odds in the lottery to win it (1.8% to secure No. 1 pick). Now they have a new franchise cornerstone and Rookie of the Year winner in Flagg, whom they hope will help lead them back into championship contention after a contentious stretch in the aftermath of the Dončić trade.

Timberwolves vs Nuggets Prediction, Picks & Best Bets for NBA Playoffs Game 5

Is this the best rivalry in the NBA?

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets have now played each other 32 times over the last four seasons, splitting two previous playoff series.

Tonight’s Timberwolves vs. Nuggets predictions and NBA picks expect the greatest antagonist in this rivalry to rise once more in Game 5 on Monday, April 27.

  • UPDATE: Added a prediction for who will win tonight.

Timberwolves vs Nuggets prediction

Who will win Timberwolves vs Nuggets Game 5?

Timberwolves: While the Nuggets are 11-point favorites and should be desperate with their backs up against the wall, anyone who has watched the last few games of this series can very clearly see the body language throughout Denver’s roster.

Frustration, anger, and wounded pride are no way to mount a comeback from a 3-1 series, and they may cost the Nuggets quicker than anyone expects.

Timberwolves vs Nuggets best bet: Jaden McDaniels Over 16.5 points (-115)

Despite leading this series 3-1, the Minnesota Timberwolves are only listed at -150 to win it at bet365.

Surely, they have a much better chance than 60%, right? They just won three straight games, snapping the Denver Nuggets’ 13-game winning streak.

Nope, these are the worries when your franchise cornerstone goes down with an injury to his good knee. Without Anthony Edwards — and Donte DiVincenzo — Minnesota suddenly has much to still worry about.

Enter Jaden McDanielsThe Timberwolves’ wing has angered and humiliated the Nuggets in every way.

First, McDaniels pointed out how poor they are defensively after Game 2. Then he backed it up by scoring 20 points on just 13 shots in Game 3.

To outdo himself, McDaniels capped Game 4 with a last-second layup that drew all of Denver’s remaining ire, which had somehow been absent for about 24 minutes in the second half.

McDaniels’s deep shooting has been a liability of late — 1-for-11 from beyond the arc in this series and 2-for-19 in his last six games — but when Edwards is sidelined, the sixth-year wing tends to dial up his offense.

McDaniels averaged 18.7 points in 16 games without Edwards this season, compared to 13.8 in 57 games alongside Edwards. He takes 3.6 more shots per game with Edwards sidelined, including an average of one additional 3-pointer.

These are the reasons McDaniels has topped this prop in 10 of those 16 games without Edwards, with two of those exceptions falling short by only the hook.

McDaniels should emphasize his mid-range game to once again expose the Nuggets’ defensive weaknesses.

Timberwolves vs Nuggets same-game parlay

The Timberwolves should run in Edwards’s absence. McDaniels, Bones Hyland, and Ayo Dosunmu will have much of the duty getting the ball up the court, and they will never turn down a chance to push the pace.

Those transition opportunities will help McDaniels score without living beyond the arc, where he has scuffled to a 10.5% showing in his last six games. Those opportunities will also create easy assist chances, and he already averages 3.2 assists without Edwards compared to 2.6 with the shooting guard in the lineup.

Timberwolves vs Nuggets SGP

  • Jaden McDaniels Over 16.5 points
  • Jaden McDaniels Under 1.5 threes
  • Jaden McDaniels Over 2.5 assists

Our “from downtown” SGP: Wearing Out Jokic

Know who will despise the Timberwolves’ escalated pace without Anthony Edwards? Nuggets’ star Nikola Jokic.

He already looks exhausted. One might wonder if his temper tantrum at the end of Game 4 was in part the result of shoddy judgment thanks to fatigue.

Jokic will struggle to get up and down the court with Hyland, Dosunmu, and McDaniels — and their pace will only further sap his legs.

Timberwolves vs Nuggets SGP

  • Jaden McDaniels Over 16.5 points
  • Jaden McDaniels Under 1.5 threes
  • Jaden McDaniels Over 2.5 assists
  • Nikola Jokic Under 30.5 points

Timberwolves vs Nuggets odds for Game 5

  • Spread: Timberwolves +11 (-110) | Nuggets -11 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Timberwolves +375 | Nuggets -500
  • Over/Under: Over 222 (-110) | Under 222 (-110)
