CISA and Partners Release Asset Inventory Guidance for Operational Technology Owners and Operators

CISA, along with the National Security Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Environmental Protection Agency, and several international partners, released comprehensive guidance to help operational technology (OT) owners and operators across all critical infrastructure sectors create and maintain OT asset inventories and supplemental taxonomies.

An asset inventory is a regularly updated, structured list of an organization’s systems, hardware, and software. It includes a categorization system—a taxonomy—that classifies assets based on their importance and function. This guidance explains how OT owners and operators can create, maintain, and use asset inventories and taxonomies to identify and safeguard their critical assets.

Following this guidance, organizations may gain deeper insights into their architecture, optimize their defenses, better assess and reduce cybersecurity risk in their environments, and enhance incident response planning to ensure service continuity.

Padres tie Dodgers atop NL West in bizarre day for Shohei Ohtani

It was a memorable day for Shohei Ohtani and a successful one for the San Diego Padres.

It was the eighth triple play in Angels history. Ohtani was visibly stunned as the Angels ran off the field, while Rushing appeared to be in some pain after an awkward lunge, though he remained in the game.

Per Statcast, the ball was 86.8 mph off Ohtani’s bat and carried a .480 xBA (meaning a 48% chance of becoming a hit based on exit velocity and launch angle). Had the ball been a hit, it likely would’ve yielded a run for the Dodgers.

Instead, Neto, a defensive standout at short, made one of the best plays of his career.

Ohtani got some redemption in the ninth, clubbing a go-ahead homer against his former team, his 43rd long ball of the season.

But that was the end of the good for the Dodgers. New closer Alex Vesia allowed the Angels to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth and needed to escape a bases-loaded situation just to send it to extra innings, which didn’t go the Dodgers’ way. They failed to score the ghost runner in the top of the 10th, and then Jo Adell put them away in the bottom of the inning.

The game added to what was already an eventful day for Ohtani, as it was widely reported in the morning that he and his agent, Nez Balelo, were being sued over a Hawaiian real estate deal gone bad, in which Balelo allegedly clashed with the project’s developers after Ohtani signed an endorsement deal in 2023.

Much like the AL West, in which the Seattle Mariners tied the Houston Astros on Tuesday, the NL West has become a dead sprint between two teams, one a multi-World Series-winning division standard-bearer and the other an upstart that has been trying to break through for years.

With 42 games remaining on each of their schedules, the Padres have the momentum, but the Dodgers are still favored to come out on top, with BetMGM having them as -325 favorites for the division as of Tuesday night.

That could change quickly, though, especially with the Dodgers hosting a three-game series against the Padres this weekend.

Brewers rough up Paul Skenes in 14-0 blowout of Pirates, secure their second 11-game win streak since July

Not even Paul Skenes could cool off the red-hot Milwaukee Brewers.

The Brewers tagged Skenes for a leadoff home run Tuesday to spark a 14-0 blowout of the Pittsburgh Pirates. In the process, they chased the NL Cy Young favorite after four innings.

The victory extended Milwaukee’s winning streak to 11 games, marking its second 11-game win streak since July. Per MLB’s Sarah Langs, the Brewers are just the second MLB team since 1954 to post two such streaks in a single season and the 13th since the turn of the 20th century. And they’ve done it in a matter of weeks as their first 11-game win streak started on July 6.

The win Tuesday improved the Brewers’ MLB-best record to 75-44, as they’ve emerged from the All-Star break as the best team in baseball. They’re now 20-4 in the second half of the season and hold a 7.5-game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central.

What’s more, the Brewers secured Tuesday’s win while roughing up arguably the best pitcher in baseball. They did the bulk of their damage against Pittsburgh’s bullpen but also handed Skenes one of the worst outings of his brief but stellar career.

Sal Frelick got the barrage started for the Brewers. Milwaukee’s leadoff hitter declined to bite on a 2-2 changeup below the strike zone and worked Skenes to a full count. The payoff pitch was a 97 mph fastball that Skenes delivered on the lower inside corner of the zone. Frelick launched it into the right-field stands for an early 1-0 Brewers lead.

Milwaukee didn’t strike again in the inning but made Skenes work in a 22-pitch first.

Skenes appeared to settle down in the second with a 1-2-3 inning. But he issued two walks in the third and allowed another Milwaukee run to score on a William Contreras double.

Skenes then allowed three more hits in the fourth, including a Brice Turang solo home run and an RBI single by Frelick that followed a Joey Ortiz double.

Skenes got out of the inning without further damage, but the Brewers had built a 4-0 lead, and his night was done. The final line for Skenes: 4 earned runs on 6 hits, including 2 home runs, with 2 walks on 93 pitches. His ERA crossed the two-run threshold, increasing from 1.94 to 2.13.

Frelick’s leadoff home run marked the first time this season that Skenes allowed a first-inning run of any kind. Tuesday was just the second time this season that Skenes allowed multiple home runs.

And Pittsburgh’s bullpen didn’t stand a chance.

In the fifth inning, Christian Yelich kept the party going with a two-run home run off reliever Yohan Ramírez.

Before the game was done, the Brewers tagged five Pittsburgh pitchers for 15 hits and five home runs while walking five times. Nine Brewers batters secured hits, nine scored runs, and seven logged RBI.

And on the mound, Freddy Peralta pitched a gem. The Brewers’ starter threw six shutout innings with seven strikeouts and one walk while giving up just three hits. Milwaukee’s bullpen did the job from there, completing the shutout with three more pitchers.

If you haven’t been paying attention to the Brewers, now’s a good time to start.
