An Opportunity to Fight Poverty and Stand Up for Workers Through Trade
For decades, we’ve fought to secure a series of trade programs that have delivered results at home and around the globe. This week, Congress will consider whether or not to continue these programs that help bring people out of poverty, create new opportunities for developing countries to grow, and help retrain American workers who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own.
The Trade Preferences Extension Act, which the Administration has worked on closely with Congress, will not only expand and improve Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), which helps laid-off U.S. workers get back on their feet, but will also extend programs that help support jobs and economic growth in developing countries. These programs include the African Growth & Opportunity Act (AGOA), Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), and Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity through Partnership Encouragement (HOPE) Act.
Combined, these improved trade programs present a unique opportunity to both support American workers and help create jobs in the developing world.
Here is a look at key provisions of the Trade Preferences Extension Act that Congress is considering this week:

Noisia, stylized as NOISIΛ (‘VISION’ rotated 180°), is a Dutch electronic music trio consisting of members Nik Roos,Martijn van Sonderen and Thijs de Vlieger from Groningen, The Netherlands.
They produce a wide variety of music including drum and bass, dubstep, breakbeat and house music. Noisia perform across the world and own three record labels (Vision, Division and Invisible Recordings).
NOISIΛ have released music on major Drum & Bass labels such as Teebee‘s Subtitles, Goldie’s Metalheadz, Rob Playford‘s Moving Shadow, Ram Records, Virus Recordings and Renegade Hardware. They have also collaborated with well-known drum and bass artists Cause 4 Concern, Teebee, Phace, Black Sun Empire,Bad Company UK, Dom & Roland, and The Upbeats. They have remixed Konflict‘s Messiah, Pendulum and The Freestylers‘ Painkiller and have been remixed by artists like Teebee and Matrix, in addition to other remixes.

Foreign Beggars
Foreign Beggars are a British Hip Hop, Grime and Dubstep group based in London. The group consists of MCs Orifice Vulgatron, Metropolis, producer Dag Nabbit and DJ Nonames and are renowned for their eclectic and energetic live shows. Currently forming well over a hundred shows a year the group has performed with a number of high profile artists spanning a range of musical genres.
Foreign Beggars release their records through Dented Records, a label which was created and owned by the group to support their own material and other UK underground artists.

Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam (Tamil: மாதங்கி ‘மாயா’ அருள்பிரகாசம், Mātaṅki ‘Māyā’ Aruḷpirakācam ; born 17 July 1977), better known by her stage name M.I.A. (a play on her name and for Missing in Action), is a British recording artist, songwriter, painter and director of Sri Lankan Tamil descent. Her compositions combine elements of electronica, dance, alternative, hip hop and world music.
M.I.A. began her career in 2000 as a visual artist, filmmaker and designer in West London before beginning her recording career in 2002. Since rising to prominence in early 2004 for her singles “Sunshowers” and “Galang“, charting in the UK and Canada and reaching number 11 on the Billboard Hot Dance Singles Sales in the US, she has been nominated for an Academy Award, two Grammy Awards and the Mercury Prize.
She is the only artist in history to be nominated for an Academy Award, Grammy Award, Brit Award, Mercury Prize and Alternative Turner Prize, and the first artist of Asian descent to be nominated for an Academy and Grammy Award in the same year.
